NO SMOKING!

I smoked for 49 years and enjoyed it. However about a year and a half ago I had to quit. I tried to lay down on that day and just immediately I could not breathe and it scared me I had to go outside and try to catch my breath it was the middle of winter at the time and here I was in my underwear trying to regain my breath. I have never been scared of anything in my life but that scared me I feel that I was not ready yet to say goodbye to earth. Since then I have not smoked a cigarette. Gave it up cold turkey.

The forbidden fruit, right?

I was at CVS today. I started looking at the nicotene gum, but decided to buy the nicoten lozenges instead. I'll try them this weekend and let you know.Smile

I'm on the electric cigs! Hate them but there working!

Trag55

Macho ex-soldiers should use will-power and just stop, lozenges, e-cigs, patches, what a load of bollocks!

Knights-Rule

Applying all these good Ideas to my doughnut addiction. Not sure the e-cigs will help but will to give them a try.

I appreciate everyone's input, and yes there are a number of ways to quit. If it was simple, we wouldn't have shopaholics, or gamblers, or obese people, or sexaholics.  I'm on tract for 8 cigs today. It may not sound like much, but remember, 2 weeks ago I was smoking 18 a day. Some people say the tough one for them is after a meal, or in their car, right when they wake up. I usually go 1 hr after I wake for my 1st one. My triggers are if I'm bored, or emotionally upset. Bobby_J_Fischer said, "with the money you save, buy yourself a nice chess set". May I add $100. on chess books at Barnes & Noble.

Hang in there buddy!

I used to wake up in the morning & count how many cigarettes I had in the pack before I went to work. If it EVEN LOOKED liked there maynot be enough to get through the day I would buy another pack on the way to work. I haven't had a cigarette since 1998. Its good to be free! God bless.

NomadicKnight

Keep it up Ronald! Try to make your goal for today 7 cigs or less.

your doing fine. keep it up.

RonaldJosephCote

I didn't make the 7 cig goal, BUT,  I did wait 2 hrs after waking up before my 1st one.Surprised   I can normally put it off for 1 hr. Man was I surprised. So now another goal is to go 3 hrs, 4 hrs, 5 hrs, before lighting up after sleeping.

sleepingbeauty

you will get there

NomadicKnight

Keep it up! Sounds like you are powering through. Few questions: What was your usual choice of cigarette, how many did you smoke/day, and have you switched to ultra-lights?

WBFISHER

Switch to Virginia Slims Menthol RJC, they will help you quit.  It's like smoking a spearmint stick.

RonaldJosephCote

I smoked Marlboro all my life. Never went more than a pack a day.  The smoking Sesassion classes recommend you switch to a lower miligram of tar and nicotene.

NomadicKnight

And are you still smoking the reds, or did you begin smoking lights or ultras?

RonaldJosephCote

Still the reds. I should switch.Embarassed  I'm just being lazy by whinning myself off.Cry

NomadicKnight

Couldn't hurt to step down to the Marlboro Lights at this point. Or even the Ultra Lights.

Besides the marketing, I never understood the appeal of Reds.  Have you tried American Spirit -- they are natural with no additives.  I think that means pseudo-healthy.
