ODE TO THE COMMON CAT !

Oh frisk my whiskers catch a rat !
There’s no such thing as a common cat
That scientists now rhapsodise
About our great intelligence?
Doctors are placing prominence
Upon our skills to help the I’ll.
Our purrs prove better than the pill
And we can save the very old
With body heat to stay the cold .
( Unlike the opposition dog
You needn’t exercise a mog ! )

Unique with monkeys and with you
We too use insight to undo
Many a teasing circumstance
With all of that’s significance !

We’re not aloof . We can respond.
You only get the vagabond
When you neglect to care for us .
Stroke us for purrs . Be sensuous !

In your world of conformation
Concrete piles and regulations,
Praise the tabbies , ginger Tom cats
And city slicks in black and spats .
You need our singularities,
Our torn-eared eccentricities.

Nature’s links are being Brocken.
Love your feline jungle token .
Ring out the purrs . MagnifiCat !
There’s no such thing as a common cat !
