A local star almost the same age as the universe... ! They really have no way of knowing it's age . It could be 20 billion for all they know .Just like they don't know the age of the Universe.

Would someone pleez finish my words of wisdom ?....

If u luv light ?....let it go.

If it doesn't come back to you ?

then ____________ .

oh oh ...is it "because it got lost in the post and ended up in a polyamorous relation ship which sailed a loooooooooooooong time ago" ? I'm close right ?

A thought that keeps on bugging me is that if we when we look at images of galaxies 13+ billion light years away we should see a wall of white .If we are looking at an image from the start of the universe

when things were much closer together . When we look back in time to the start of the universe all of the galaxies should have almost no Red shift and be all bunched together in one white ball of light.

The only thing that makes sense ,to me, is that the images we see are indeed 13+ billion light years away and that the Red shift is due to Gravitational Red Shift which was recently proven to exist.

The force of gravity is the weakest of the forms of energy and a photon is massless. The Red Shift from from a gravity well like a galaxy would take a long time and distance to become apparent.

Is it a coincidence that the only galaxy moving towards us and has Blue Shifted light is our closest neighbour Andromeda?  I don't think so. There two trillion and counting and that's the only one moving towards us? Unlikely.

There are clearly two causes of the Red Shift . Recession and Gravity . Together they explain beautifully a Steady State Universe as in the Unified Model. Even Hubble thought there was another explanation

to the Red Shift he observed other than recession alone.

....I sooo hope ur right.

I just need to know. Galaxies flying away from us at close to the speed of light???... it makes as much sense as a bottle of crisps.

Galaxies should fly away from us! Who the hell would stick around after the introductions?!?

So is it kinda folksy physics to say light doesn't go linear ?....or are we still trying2 work that one out ?

Avatar of Iknowthemoves

I'm waiting to be enlightened.

Avatar of Thee_Ghostess_Lola

Remember the cartoons when we were children ?....the anime would go out over the edge and not move & be suspended ?....then, only when they realized gravity would take effect ?....they would fall.

So, maybe ur just waiting to be enlightened 'cuz there actually is no light (consciously) until u realize it....lol !!

Like the Oscar Wilde 'nature copies art' statement or the 'tree falls in the woods and no one hears it' thing. IOW's, what ur senses (in this case, ur eyes IKTM's) can't sense doesn't exist.

....oobly boobly !

What Art really reveals to us is Nature's lack of design, her curious crudities, her extraordinary ..... creations, and not boast of them as copies. ...... Oscar Wilde

Art enlightens what was always there ...it neither copies or creates...iknowthemoves

I remember from somewhere something about a child watching a wood carver making a model from a block of wood and she asked afterwards...."how did he know it was in there"?

Are we living in an expanding universe or is our galaxy collapsing so that we are moving away from It?

It is painfully clear by this point in the thread that there are no answers, just increasingly irritating pointless questions.

pain spudulisious..?

Lets be honest my friend...and I say this in the true spirit of friendship and love....you deserve all the pain you get....right?

It's how each of us look at it (the notes).  For DrS, he see nothing correct; for IKTM, he only sees his concept for decay.  For me, I see that a photon decays by aging, ie the lose of energy at a constant rate over time.  I would like to see both of you tell me why that can  not be true as I assume is your thoughts.  I would very much like to see both your answers.  And you might like to see each others too.

If you comb over the previous 4700+ notes, you can see that I declared the subject as basically unknowable and even not worth knowing. Many wisecracks ensued. The only people qualified to even discuss this issue are actual physicists. Anyone else is just spinning pure bullshit.
