Having sampled American bacon myself I fear you may only be experiencing a pale imitation of all it can be. The American nation disrespects bacon. It saddens me that a man so devoted as yourself should have to live this way.

Well its been 3 years since i was in London, so im kinda stuck with american bacon.  But i do get it from a butcher, and not that crappy packaged stuff.

Hello exnos. I have posted no etymology outside of the word association thread but as you have thrown the ball up here I will swing the bat. It appears bacon entered English, via French, from the ancient Frankish 'bakkon' meaning back meat. Many meats in the English language show the disparity between English peasants and French conquerors after 1066. Beef is French, cow is English. Lamb is French, sheep is English. Pork is French, pig is English. This is because the English did the farming and the French did the eating.
