If the Oscars were representing the state of American culture at this point in time then American Sniper would be a perfect representative--a classic piece of American propaganda in a society which hails it's volunteer army of invaders. It has the totally Christain attitude of identifying with the guilt of doing wrong, which is supposed to somehow erase the wrong-doing itself. Just like how the jerk is absolved from being a jerk six days a week so long as on the seventh day s/he goes to confession at the local church.
Birdman winning Best Picture is understandable because it's just actors playing actors while showing the self-doubt, delusion, anxiety, and pretension of being in show business and living with disappointment. Though I think I'm making it sound better than it was
For anyone who happened to follow the Oscars (which I watched tonight) I was curious of what you thought of the results? I saw very few of the movies which had been nominated but I was hoping that American Sniper would get either best actor or best picture which it didn't. I missed Birdman which did pretty well and i also missed many of the other winners....anyone have a opinion? (Yes i know its unfair to judge something as the best until u at least see all the contenders.....)
