The 8 planets in our solar system (Part 1)

Mercury: Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system and also the 1st planet. The name means Latin Mercurius, in Roman religion, god of shopkeepers and merchants, travelers and transporters of goods, and thieves and tricksters. He is commonly identified with the Greek Hermes, the fleet-footed messenger of the gods. It takes 88 days to make just one orbit. It has no rain or moons. It’s also shrinking because of the sun’s heat and pressure. The temperature can reach up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit. And at night, the temperature drops down to -330 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s about 35.98 million miles from the sun. Since the planet is the smallest, it’s also the fastest planet in the solar system.

Venus: Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system, spins the opposite way of Earth, and the size is similar to Earth’s. It’s the 2nd planet from the sun. The Romans named the brightest planet, Venus, for their goddess of love and beauty. Millions of years ago, some scientists say that there was life on Venus. But until now, Venus is covered with molten lava and volcanoes. It also has motionless clouds, rains acid and snows metal. It’s temperature can reach up to 900 degrees Fahrenheit. It takes 225 days to orbit the sun and 67.24 miles away. It also has no moons.

Earth:  Earth is where we live. It’s the 3rd planet from the sun. It has 7 continents. The name "Earth" is derived from both English and German words, 'eor(th)e/eartha' and 'erde', respectively, which mean ground. ... One interesting fact about its name: Earth is the only planet that wasn't named after a Greek or Roman god or goddess. It’s the only planet that has water and the only planet that has life. It has a moon. Some scientists think the moon was just a part of Earth millions of years ago. It crashed into each other because of Earth’s gravity. And it also tilted earth 23.5 degrees. It takes 365 days to orbit the sun.

Mars: Mars is Earth’s neighbor planet and it’s the 4th planet from the sun. Some scientists say that there is also life on Mars but the water dried out. The name Mars means God Of War and is of Greek origin. Some satellites reached to Mars to investigate and explore what Mars surface is made of. It’s the second smallest planet in the solar system. It takes 687 Earth days to orbit the sun and about 141.6 million miles from the sun. It has 2 moons, Phobos and Deimos. Some scientists say that a million to a billion years later, Phobos would crash into Deimos and may form a ring around Mars. Phobos is a bit larger than Deimos. If you land on the surface of Mars with a rocket, you may probably freeze. It’s a cold -81 degrees.

These 4 planets are inner ones. This is only just the beginning. Wait next week for “The 8 planets in the solar system (Part 2)!!!
