Public accusations/asking people to mass report someone is foolish and against the rules

Recently there's been a massive influx in people making threads about their encounters with trolls and or other unsavoury people, as well as public accusations of people doing certain things.

I'm not going to sit here and pretend I've never done this myself. But it's important to remember that engaging with these people and giving threads discussing them is not an effective way of getting justice.

For one thing, making threads about these people gives them much attention, and trolls have a tendency to enjoy any sort of attention whatsoever. So by making a thread about them, you are giving them what they want and motivating them to continue their actions in the future.

The second thing making threads about them does is put a massive target on your back, because now the troll will want to milk your reactions as much as possible and try to get temporary entertainment from you. So the best way to avoid falling for this is to not give them any attention,  acting as though they don't exist.

The final reason making threads about trolls is a bad idea is simply put, it's against the rules, and could result in a lock to a mute for repeated offenses. So it is best to keep yourself safe and follow the rule, as it makes sense and is the best way to avoid giving trolls what they want anyway.

Very few here are completely guilt free of doing this in the past. What matters though is what happens in the future. So let's all commit to avoiding giving the trolls what they want. No "warning" threads, no REPORT THIS PERSON threads. The best way to stop trolls is to ignore, block and report them.

Everyone please report @APersonWhoYoyos for trolling.

Great thread, though. It's good to raise awareness about this topic. Not to mention how dumb it is to make a thread asking for people to report someone that sometimes does nothing wrong.

True. I mean look at what happened with you in breeze, you were banned for months primarily for false accusations

I might need to whack him with my blue shutter yoyo... Oh wait

RealTactics960

Yeah I completely agree with you. And I can admit I fall into the many who have given them attention before

I think that was different, and mutes were necessary. Months of banning was stupid, though.

Bump, for what should be obvious reasons.

#7 I agree the months of bans were stupid but maybe a underlying cause that had gone unnoticed for a while resurfaced
APersonWhoYoyos
Maybe.

Also unnecessarily replying to the trolls is another way to put a target on your back and give them what they want. Hint hint nudge nudge.
APersonWhoYoyos
#12 I might have to snatch that

Bump because certain people who will remain nameless need a reminder. They can't thrive if you don't respond.

You may have missed the point of this thread

Can’t miss the point if I didn’t read most of it

It basically summarizes to "mentioning trolls at all or responding to them just motivates them to act further, the best way is to completely ignore and never comment on any threads trying to bait people into raging at the troll
