Why is almost everybody’s profile pic on Chess.com anime?????  Just Why?

also mostly bc people are sometimes too nervous to show their own face online, so they go with anime stuff. its kinda sad.

Maybe part of it has to do with online security if they don't feel comfortable showing their face. For me, I like anime, but it is more laziness than some "escape"

Seto Kaiba is the character in my prp from the 1996 anime Yugioh. In that anime, he is an accomplished chess player (beat the world champion in a chess game before), so I felt it was sort of chess-themed. Most of my profile description and my exact username was recycled from a Yugioh site I used to play at before it closed down. It was easier to recycle the stuff from that than to create something in the moment xD

And I also didn't expect to stick with chess as long as I have I like my username and profile picture a lot, but maybe I would have given it more thought if I knew I'd still be on chess.com years later; now I'm part of the community and have no plans of leaving

My kids used to love Yu-Gi-Oh 

It was actually really well written from the standpoint of symbolism and irony, but most children probably won't catch these deeper references. It is good to just enjoy it as a show too though
