Fun fact: Before the alarm clock was invented, there was a profession where you would knock on windows with a stick to wake people up. These people were called knocker-ups.

The first clocks were candles made to burn a certain amount of time. When you needed an alarm you pushed a metal nail into the right spot and when the time came it would fall into the metal holder
