"We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin is the best work of literary science fiction ever. In fact, it was the first work of science fiction ever.

Hitchhiker's Guide (book version) is great too, for different reasons.

Avatar of dancidoll

Ill have to read them. and what are the reasons?

Avatar of ivandh

The Guide is hilarious, We is serious.

The Borg would win.

Not if Kirk were still rolling.

Avatar of dancidoll

Kirk, from Star Trek?

Or, who would win in a battle between Kirk and Picard?

My favorite author is Tim Powers; my favorite novel is On Stranger Tides.

If you like Sci-fi/horror  reading, check out H.P. Lovecraft.  Ever read him?

Thanks to the OP for starting this interesting thread, by coincidence I've got a thread going on Star Trek so we are somewhat on a parallel course  lol. Mind you I'm old enough to have seen the original series the first time it was shown on TV. Thanks also to Ivandh for posting the nice photo of Captain James T.Kirk ( however I'm at a loss as to which episode it is from ). I've had a chance to see the 3 early Star Wars movies as well and the 1st one was my favourite, not surprising as I am a huge fan of the late Alec Guiness. Also very much enjoyed the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, there I have to cheer for the Evil Wizzard as I enjoyed Christopher Lee's role as well. The Doctor Who series also had some good episodes in that series ( oh and anyone remember The Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, made both as a movie and later on TV ? ).

Have you ever read Harlan Ellison? He has wrtten just about everything from sci-fi to fiction to detective fiction to essays and T.V. The City on the Edge of Forever(Star Trek) was written by him. He was also creative consultant for Babylon Five, one of the better sci-fi programs , in my humble opinion.

Babylon 5 was the best sci-fi TV series IMO!
