Oh yes and book if you read. Stephen king is awesome.
If you like Sci-fi/horror reading, check out H.P. Lovecraft. Ever read him?
no i have not, ill check him out
Stephen King is a big H.P. Lovecraft fan. I saw a book that listed King's selection of greatest sci fi stories, and Lovecraft made the list(I think it was a story called Colour Out of Time).
I enjoy watching, "Merlin", I watched it last Sunday night and it was the episode where a dragon egg was found and Merlin had helped it to hatch as Merlin is the last of the dragon lords.
Frank Herbert's Dune, which postulates that man must continually adapt is the direct antithesis of Asimov's Foundation Trilogy which postulates that science can solve all of our problems for us. Discuss.
But where does the boundaries of science lie? If science were to become sufficiently advanced, the rigid separation between religion and science would disolve. Think of consciousness for example. Science does not define consciousness by any means and just avoids the issue altogether by defining the brain through physical and chemical processes.
Also, how does using science to solve all of our problems advance the social and moral traits of humanity? While we would be able to improve living standards, that does not solve any moral or social issues. That is something we each need to do: continually improving ourselves to achieve a greater understanding. Science does not end wars between different peoples. To evolve as a species, we must grow past that on our own.
In addition, how does science explain the results of thought on the results of coin flipping. Several experiments were done which have shown that there was a deviation of significantly larger than the standard statistically after several billion coin flips. Instead of the result being near 50%, the results were closer to around 46%, exceeding the percentage error which is small due to the large sample taken. Science is not ready to answer this yet.
Science too rigid to be the only method of improvement for a society, unless it adapts to a more open prospective on the world.
So we can put you down in Herberts camp then ? PS-is it possible that the minute difference in weight from the shape of the molds on either side of the coin could account for the difference, ie: the "heads" side has a more prominent mold and therefore slightly heavier and more affected by gravity?
I liked Capt America a lot. I didn't see Green Lantern, but another green super-hero the Green Hornet movie sucked, and I'm a Green Hornet fan. Anyways I think Capt A was as good as the Iron Man, X-Men and SpiderMan movies, and better than Daredevil and FF4 movies. Way better than Green Hornet, but that's not saying much since GH was so bad! So far I think the last 2 Batman movies are the best superhero movies to date IMHO.
Many of our vices have existed since at least the beginning of recorded history. I don't think future advances will eliminate them any more than past ones have.
Like many sci-fi geeks across the planet I'm waiting for Dr Who to re-appear on my viewscreen, during his abscense a kind friend lent me the first 3 series of the American TV show called 'Fringe' (nutty professor meets X files is the only way I can describe it). Written by J. J. Abrams, so you know it's a half decent script and watch out for appearences by Leonard Nimoy and Christopher Lloyd. Scary, poignant and some painfully funny scenes & one liners to watch out for.
"Walter.. is that brains on your neck tie?"
Walter lifts end of tie to mouth and sucks
"No, it's strawberry jam"
Liked the new look Star Trek movie immensely, they've got young Kirk and Spock just right though not entirely sure about Simon Peg as Scotty, who knows maybe he'll mature like a fine malt whisky lol!
In perperation I'd dug around the web and watched some of the films made by fans of the original series so it was not so much of a shock. If you haven't seen these yet do take a look.
Bit disapponted with the fighting robot flick "Real Steel" had hoped the robot to have a bigger part as they sort of hinted it's sentient and not just remote controlled, of course I'm a geek and therefore biased.
Personally I'm a Harry Harrison fan myself,
though I seriously doubt his most popular characters will ever make to the big screen.

Thanks to the OP for starting this interesting thread, by coincidence I've got a thread going on Star Trek so we are somewhat on a parallel course lol. Mind you I'm old enough to have seen the original series the first time it was shown on TV. Thanks also to Ivandh for posting the nice photo of Captain James T.Kirk ( however I'm at a loss as to which episode it is from ). I've had a chance to see the 3 early Star Wars movies as well and the 1st one was my favourite, not surprising as I am a huge fan of the late Alec Guiness. Also very much enjoyed the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, there I have to cheer for the Evil Wizzard as I enjoyed Christopher Lee's role as well. The Doctor Who series also had some good episodes in that series ( oh and anyone remember The Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, made both as a movie and later on TV ? ).
your welcome. I'm not much of a trekie, but i do love deep space nine when i watch it. And the newest star treck movie. yeah he was hot...
