Well I'm not sure about the best but a very funny movie that I enjoyed had Doctor Watson as the brains behind the whole thing ( well played by Ben Kingsley ). In this movie Watson had written the books on Sherlock Holmes but had only made that character up. Then a real Holmes was needed for a case so Watson hired an out of work Stage-Actor to pretend to be Holmes ( well played by Michael Cain ).
Sherlock Holmes

I saw that movie I think it was called "Without a Clue". I'm a bit of a traditional Holmes fan. I really liked the BBC series with Jeremy Brett playing Holmes. Hated the Robert Downey Jr. movies.
I haven't seen the movies with Robert Downey Jr. The TV series with Jeremy Brett was one that I also liked.

We are currently voting on the best Sherlock Holmes in our news section in the team "Baker Street Irregulars". Take a look if you want!!

I read all the books a million times - The adventure of the Speckled band, The adventure of the Red-headed league, The hound of the Baskervilles - my favs.
I find the new Sherlock series brilliant, too.

Love the pictures. You are welcome to join the Baker Street Irregulars, our Sherlock Holmes team. I love The Red-Headed League, but my favourite story is The Blue Carbuncle.

Hy John, I have read all the SH novels, my favorite ones: The Valley of Fear, the Hound of the Baskerville, the Adventure of Dancing Men, the Adventure of the Empty House. I have seen the new BBC series with Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and I enjoy it. Despite the modern background, the plot is very faithful with the originals of A.C.Doyle.

Nice series, I'm reading.

I like Sherlock a lot. I think Cumberbatch does a good Holmes, and he has good chemistry with Freeman. Moriarty is actually the biggest annoyance for me in that show. Actually, Moriarty sort of annoys me in most Sherlock Holmes videos because he was really a minor character invented to kill Holmes, not Holmes' lifetime nemesis.
I also liked the Jeremy Brett version. I like how it is close to the original, and Brett gives him a lot of small eccentricities instead of making him a crazy lunatic. One thing that constantly bothered me was his age. If I remember correctly, some dates in the story suggest that Holmes was under 30 when he and Watson met.
I enjoy watching Elementary sometimes. One of the things that bothers me about it is Moriarty and Holmes' girlfriend.
Lets not bring up the Robert Downy Jr. films again, please! :-p Actually, I thought they were entertaining, but they were not Sherlock Holmes.

Well, the Valley of Fear was more of a McMurdo story than a Holmes story. Actually, the Hound didn't have Holmes in it much, either. Wait a sec... None of the novels do! Good stuff, though.
I actually thought the strangest one was the story in 3rd person. It seemed so much different than the rest. It is like the end of a story.
There have been a lot of adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes stories in recent years. Which do you think is the best? And also which actors make the best Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson?
