Interesting thread ( it could also be called: " The Endless Search For Perfection "  lol ). I feel that the mods are doing what they can to keep things under control while doing a thankless job, you couldn't pay me enough to be a mod here. As has been pointed out when you have a group of people doing the same type of job there will be inconsistencies. Also is there any type of solution possible to keep out those people who are banned but then sneak right back under a different name ?

But the mods should make that judgement call.   It appears that some of them have difficulty distinguishing between rule breaking comments and an opinion about current affairs; it shouldn't be left for people to complain, especially as they rarely receive a response. 

I appreciate the discussion on the matter; hopefully it will lead to some changes.

    Mind if I throw some gasoline on this fire??   I thought you wearnt sapose to talk about anything illegal on this site?   A person, (who shall remain nameless)  was recently muted for 5 days because he had 2 accounts.  Now upon his return, he's abdicating the use of torrent downloads, claiming that he "accidentally" downloaded 150 books.  Why doesn't the site just put up a big red banner on their homepage saying;                                                                                                                                                         CHESS.COM  WELCOMES  TOR  USERS

OTOH.  torrenting books and software is rampant in the chess community.  why is it forbidden to discuss;

*why it is wrong

*MORE importantly how to get books/instruction when you don't have a lot of money.

I think I shared some instructive thoughts about that.

and suggestions like "learn descriptive" and "buy used" are good tips...

We have a great used book store where i live.  There is always a nice variety to choose from.

That was a bit of over enthusiasm from a new moderator - discussion about how and where to pirate copyrighted material is definitely not allowed under Chess.com's Terms of Service, and they misunderstood that to be a blanket ban on the discussion of copyright, even if the discussion was about why people shouldn't steal books. It's been clarified within the Moderator group and we apologise for deleting that thread - if you re-create it, it won't be deleted, but it might get locked if people start advocating copyright piracy.

many law abiding people have not returned library books ,

the chilcott report was a big "book" however a copy cost lots of money , id certainly say getting that for free is fair even if it has to be stolen

    Can a mod or Staff person PM me with a reason why my thread in off-topic was locked?----"Comedic Irony".    That was good clean funny stuff.
