Al Stewart, Amy Correia.

I don't know Amy Correia, but Al Stewart is an interesting choice. I like Year of the Cat. I don't know many of his songs, but the ones I've heard are pretty intense.

But speaking of Scottish song writers, how about Donovan Leitch?

Laura Nyro and Carol King come to mind as great American women song writers.

Glad to see you you giving Leonard Cohen his due. I think he'll be remembered long after most other songwriters of his day have been forgotten.

I've never listened to Japanese singers.  She's sounds very good, but since I don't speak Japanese, I can't form any opinion of her as a songwriter. An unexpected delight.

Like a bird on a wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir, I have tried in my own way to be free.

Is John Denver considered a great songwriter?  I like many of his songs.

Joaquín Sabina, Javier Krahe (who was a more than decent chess player, btw, and stopped playing when smoking was banned in public places).

And, even if it can't be understood:

(Federico García Lorca - Alberto Gambino).

I don't know Spanish.  I listened to something by both artists and of course didn't understand a word but the performance was enjoyable.  Are they more noted as performers or writers?

Avatar of Pulpofeira

As writers, much more. As performers both of them would say they suck, I guess.

Avatar of Pulpofeira

They are on the line of Georges Brassens.

Thanks.

I have the same problem with English, of course. But since songs in this language are so popular worlwide, I'm used to enjoy them even without understanding.
