Staying In Shape

So, all you hardcore chess players that spend a lot of time on the board - what do you do to stay in shape? I'm merely looking to fire up a conversation based on fitness and clean eating. So....

Right now, I eat moderately clean. Lean meats, green veggies, certain fruits, water or black coffee to drink only....

I haven't gotten in the gym as much as I would like to lately which is sad because I can go for free via my job BUT...

I have a mean body weight workout routine if anyone wants to try it. It's a 4 on 1 off 3 on 1 off circuit style training.

I know! I've been playing for a whopping 2 weeks and I'm still leagues behind you. Do you have any solid advice for me?

:)

Thanks!

I actually wasn't speaking about fitness in relation to chess or asking for advice. I just wanted to engage in conversation with anyone that does work out - share ideas, workouts, goals, etc.

Fitness is my passion while chess is just a new found hobby. Do you work out regularly? If so, what kind of workouts do you primarily do?

I got a weight bench in my basement, and an ellyptical (SP).   I cardio for about 10 minutes, then on one day will work chest and tri's, the other day back and bi's.   pushups every day, legs on and off.     it's a good routine, however I don't have a set time schedule.

there is an app you can use to log all of your foods, excercise, pretty much everything.  it's called "my fitness pal"   check it out if you haven't already.

MexiMartini - where I'm pressed for time lately I do something similar. I do nothing but push-ups (different variations), squats (with a 60lb heavy bag on my shoulder), dumbbell lunges, burpees, and jump rope. I run circuits of 25 each for as many rounds as I can do - 5 days one week, 4 days the next. Every few days I'll also throw in 10, 40 yard sprints.

I'd rather be in the gym but workouts like these have a fun way of crushing your soul haha.

Rely on your legs, try to find a suitable tempo, beware of your back. And remember, ladies come first.

I just used to do push-ups sit ups running playing many games like basketball tennis. I really need to go back doing sports. I did push-ups and sit-ups in order to get 6 pack abs. And I did get it with hard work and doing about 50 push-ups a day and a 100 sit ups a day so yeah.

just last week, a co-worker and me during slow time on our shift did 400 pushups each.    it was spread out for sure...10 pushups every minute, sometimes 20.    that was the most i've ever done.    sit-ups...hate em but gotta do em for sure.

My ab work once a week is planks, side planks, mountain climbers, and fridge door slams/table pushes haha.

lunges..yea!  I do those in between sets.    kids are getting older so it's getting easier to find the time, however, usually there is no time to find. ha.      Not sure if i'll ever go back to the gym.   Basement is working out just fine.

I mostly wanna get back in the gym for Squats, Deadlift, and Bench. I also don't wanna invest in a row machine and my local 24 hour gym has a few of them.
MEXIMARTINI

AHH, yea it's tough if you don't have a bench.  Like I tell my son, do push ups and situps every day...decline push ups, incline push ups...

where there's a will, there's a way.

MexiMartini - I do a lot of Spider-Man push-ups as well as diamond push-ups.
