Yup. Of it was close it could be a problem.

Where I live, the developers keep building houses further and further back in the hills. There have been more bear and mountain lion sitings as a result. The developers need to stop building - enough already!

I had to climb a tree and stay there for an hour because of a mother moose and her calf!

I’ve heard that moose are really dangerous and especially a mama moose and her baby. Glad you’re good at climbing trees 🌲 🌳 !

So am I!

I’ve seen a moose and her calf off the side of a road and it was cool. It was lime 50 yards away in a swampy area. It was really cool

I had left the bedroom door open at night to let a little cool air in - the windows tend to stick. When I returned to the room, something large and dark was flapping around. I screeched and at first, I assumed it was one of those really big, disgusting moths that come out at night. When I turned the light on, it wasn't a moth, it was a BAT! I screamed at the top of my lungs and went to go get a mop. I tried to urge it out of the room but it wasn't working. I then threw a small blanket over it, thinking I could knock it down and then remove it from the room. That also didn't work. I started to get really frustrated and as bats tend to be one of the most rabid animals, I tried to hit it. I did so and it fell to the floor. I thought, oh no, I didn't mean to kill it. I bent over to look at it and it FLEW UP INTO MY FACE! I'm sure the entire neighborhood heard my screams! Finally, I swatted it out and it flew away! That was TRULY terrifying. shock

when I was a teen, our family was headed home after a road trip. we had two cars, stepdad driving the first one, mom driving the second one, stepdad taking the lead, I'm in the front seat in mom's car. all of a sudden, I hear this loud thud and my stepsister lets out a blood curdling scream. I look up to see a massive blood stain on the window, and a rabbit stuck on our windshield wiper.

That same thing happened to me - only it was a seagull and not a rabbit. Some guy goes to us "Dude, take a pic - you can sell it on Ebay!' Um . . . .no.

I've had many interesting encounters, even friendships, with wild animals. Here's a friendship one. I befriended three crows at my workplace by letting them watch me drop snacks for them. They were an adult pair and one offspring from the previous year that stayed to help raise the next brood. That's usual crow behavior. After a while they would land on a light pole or building and call to me for snacks. In the spring they disappeared for several weeks. Then one morning as I was walking toward my building I heard a crow behind me cawing incessantly. I turned to see a few crows sitting on a crane gantry outside our warehouse. I walked over to find it was my crows introducing their four young to me. They were letting them know I was a friend. All that summer the young ones would buzz me whenever they saw me to let me know they wanted snacks.

I had a pet crow named Loki for a while once but that's another story.

I didn’t know crows could be so friendly. Remember the children’s book “Crow Boy?” Was the lead character’s name Loki? (I forget). I love that story.

Crows are extremely intelligent and recognize individual people as opposed to most birds that simply see us all as humans. Let them watch you drop food a few times and they'll start watching the clumsy human that loses food. Then you can make it obvious you're feeding them by walking toward them, dropping food at a safe distance from them, and retreating. After a while they'll start to trust you but still be leery of others. I've never heard of "Crow Boy".

Oh yeah, we also had a gray squirrel at work we named Peanut. It would actually hop on an arm or knee and beg for a peanut. We kept a jar of peanuts just inside the door for anyone to feed her. She suddenly stopped coming close for almost two weeks. I finally learned a visiting executive from Spain was taking a smoke break on the front steps when Peanut jumped on them looking for a peanut. I would love to have seen the conflusteration that scared Peanut so much. I once threw a peanut down, yes down, at a red-tailed hawk that swooped in trying to catch her. She ducked safely under the steps. She disappeared later that summer so maybe the hawk had lunch after all.

All right, a short Loki story. (I'm avoiding mowing the lawn)
An Uncle caught a young crow before it could fly and gave it to me. I named it Loki because crows are supposed to be mischievous. At first I fed it nightcrawlers my father raised for fish bait. Ever seen a worm trying to crawl back out of a crow? It's a strange sight. When the worms ran low we switched to liver. We also fed it leftovers. I learned it's true that crows are nuts for corn. Loki loved teasing the cat and would chase it around trying to nip its tail. I worked nights at that time and came home one morning to find a dozen crows in a tree behind the house. They didn't even fly away as I stood under the tree and called for Loki. They finally left when Loki flew to the house roof. One morning I came home to find Loki had electrocuted himself on a transformer while trying to land on an electric pole. In true Loki fashion he took out power to the whole town for a couple hours. I buried him in my Uncle's woods so he'd be near his original home forever.

At my childhood house, there was this group of turkeys that always stuck together and would show up periodically in the back corner near the entrance to the forest that surrounded the house. It was a beautiful property. Anyways, there was a single turkey who would always appear around a few days after the group by himself, or just at random times. Who knows why he was by himself, maybe he lost track of his group and ended up on his own? I’m not sure. But I remember, one day I woke up, and this big turkey was actually sitting in our decorative crab apple tree near our front yard, next to a male cardinal.😂 It was just so hilarious watching these two very different size and coloured birds just chill next to each other eating the crab apples. Ah, good times.

Where I live in the Netherlands, I often see Buzzards soaring high up in the sky, using uplifting thermals of rising warm air . They also they will practice their diving skills, by diving from high above , on one of their comrades , whose flying underneath them. It’s amazing to watch as they drop out of the sky, like a bomb with their wings folded ! …….utterly amazing to see .
