The group that is often given credit for starting " Southern Rock " is The Allman Brothers Band ( formed in 1968 ). Founding member of that group Gregg Allman has just passed away at age 69, Rip " Ramblin Man ".
The Beatles Or The Rolling Stones ( Etc ) Part II
Thanks for the post Bilbo21. I tend to rate them as 1A and 1B because I truly do like both groups. One interesting question however relates to Ed Sullivan: Would The Beatles have done as well as they did if they had not appeared on his TV show ? Or to look at it another way: What if The Rolling Stones had been on Ed's show first ?
Then again there is another interesting question regarding the " Ed Sullivan Effect ". Suppose that Sullivan did not have either of these groups on his TV show, would there even have been a " British Invasion " ?
Just in case Huey ( and/or Andy ) might stop by in this thread I should mention The Kinks, great group. With this very nice weather here recently the song " Sunny Afternoon " comes to mind, one of their many terrific hits.
--- Thanks for the post Destroyer_Mark_1420. Yes " Stairway To Heaven " is one of those song that will endure forever.
Beatles: the most overrated band in the history of popular music.
yeah, the fact that they have been a major influence on hundreds of bands across every type of music really makes your point.
"She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah, She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah, She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah..." - really highbrow stuff.
Well if we are going to chat about funny lyrics then how about a cute song about a " Flying Purple People Eater " rofl.
Ran into more Troll difficulties over in the old thread on this subject, let's try a another restart.
