The name Hank Marvin came up earlier in another thread. Of course " The Shadows " needs to be mentioned along with Marvin. The Shadows were an interesting group as they not only worked with Cliff Richard but also put out instrumental music as well ( sort of England's answer to " The Ventures " ).
The Beatles Or The Rolling Stones ( Etc ) Part II
Well we were all asleep at the switch yesterday. Indeed it was all of 40 years ago ( Aug 16th, 1977 ) that Elvis passed away. The King Is Gone !!!
Those people who like to visit YouTube may have heard the song " The King Is Gone " as performed by Ronnie McDowell ( he also wrote the song ), very well done.
Janis Joplin had out a great version of " Me And Bobby McGee " ( yup I've been over on YouTube again ). I also saw Jerry Lee Lewis do that song as well but which is better ( another case of 1A and 1B ? ). Btw I also took a look at JLL doing " Chantilly Lace ", very nice.

after my recent visit to where i grew up-chicago- i was reminded, again, of how radio stations in my locale suck. the corporate mentality has decided the industry after a controversial 1996 decision to allow conglomerates.
Thanks for the post AlCzervik. I've got the radio on here from around 8-AM to midnight most days. Satellite radio service is something that I've come to like but I also listen to local stations from time to time.

The Beatles or the Rolling Stones? Although it's an interesting question I cannot help you as I have no interest in classical music.

my favorite thing about the Rolling Stones = the Top 100 lists 😇

Earlier today I came across a very cute clip over on YouTube going way back to 1962. It was from the " Pops & Lenny " TV Show and featured Joe Brown & The Bruvvers. Brown is getting up there a bit now but he still does some performances.
wow, i didn't know the beatles or stones even made classical music!
--- Well that takes me back to the days when Arthur Fiedler was in charge of the Boston Pops Orchestra. Back around 1971 they did an entire album of Beatles music. I mean if you take a song like " Hey Jude " and rewrite it for a full orchestra you can end up with some very beautiful music.
From time to time I'm a bit slow at getting to sleep and I might listen to the radio for a while, rather late at night ( Hello " Coast To Coast " ). Last night they had on Michael Nesmith and I thought of the song " Hey Hey We're The Monkees " ( & I'm A Believer, Last Train To Clarksville, Daydream Believer, etc ). There are only 3 members of the group left now of course but they were doing some touring up to last year.
So are you making a salad today ? Okay make sure that you put in some " Green Onions " ( by Booker T & The MG's ). Today they happened to have " Time Is Tight " on the radio, another great song by that group.

I thought the Monkees were great fun, with some great tunes, like the ones you mentioned, bw, and they had well-constructed, lively arrangements, too. 🎵 😀

Beatles: the most overrated band in the history of popular music.
Sorry to report that Tom Petty has passed away at age 66. Among his hit songs are " Refugee ", " The Waiting " and " I Won't Back Down ".

Beatles? "Overrated?!!" Oh, you must not have been around in those first months when their new, "different" music, with its surprising, poetic lyrics and unexpected harmonies started streaming out of our radios. They spear-headed an absolute revolution in popular music, taking it from "Rock Around the Clock" simplicity to intriguing, unpredictable, complex, and varied places like "Penny Lane," "Norwegian Wood," "Lady Madonna," "Ticket to Ride," "Eleanor Rigby," "Lucy in the Sky," "Yesterday." It must be hard to imagine pop music before and after the Beatles, if you weren't there. So don't feel bad -- I forgive you. ... ;-)
Thanks a lot for the new posts Motherinlaw.
