There are some of us oldtimers that consider ABBA a " newer " group, however 40 years ago today they released the song that became their 1st hit ( it was " Waterloo " ).
The Beatles or The Rolling Stones or who ? ( or even the Who ? )
Yes, it's hard to think of ABBA as having been around so long ago that they were a Nixon-era band, even still by the time their fame spread to the west side of the Atlantic. Though not by much, as it's only 4 months until the U.S. will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of Tricky Dick's resignation.
Heh-- I just listened to a minute or so of the YouTube video for Waterloo, and I'm proud to be able to say I have no memory of the song
(though there are a bunch of other ABBA songs that, unfortunately, managed to secure themselves in my memories).
The only song "Waterloo," that I can remember is the country song, sung by Stonewall Jackson (1959).

Thanks for the new posts.
Cystem-Phailure: I must admit to knowing several ABBA songs, I quite liked " Fernando ".
Javan64: Yes I like good old Stonewall too. I think that the title was the same for the 2 songs but that was all tho.
I gather that KISS is at long last going into the Rock Hall Of Fame but not everyone in the group is happy. They have been eligible for the HOF for 15 years and the delay has a couple members of the group upset. I guess that I can see their point but still they are getting in.
" Talk Back Tembling Lips " is a song that may have come up here before but what the heck let's mention it again. That song of course was a country hit for Ernest Ashworth many years ago. However back in 1963 it was also a top ten Pop hit for Johnny Tillotson ( I like both versions ).
I gather that Paul Simon and his wife have been arrested for disorderly conduct. Now Paul is not a spring chicken so this is a bit of a surprise, perhaps the mailman was late again in delivering the pension cheque ? I think that Paul should build a " Bridge Over Troubled Waters ", let things cool down.
Rather than becoming more mellow with seniority, perhaps Simon is fated to follow Zsa Zsa Gabor's path. Once she hit a certain age she got crankier and more troublesome every additional year.
Yeah, I just heard that on the news about Paul Simon. Maybe this will give him material for a new song?

Yes I don't know about these rich folks that are not happy in their old age. But then I guess that we are all different and it might be a struggle for some to move from fame into old age.
There are famous people (athletes, entertainers) that seem to really miss the adoration when not in the limelight.

Thanks for the recent posts.
Today I heard a nice song with a very funny title on the radio: Drinking Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee lol. A very lively number done by Blues artist Brownie " Stick " McGhee.
Zeppelin is being sued again. This time its for "Stairway To Heaven". Rock group Spirit, claimes they wrote it.
Took their time. Apparently the first public mention they ever made was more than a quarter century after the song came out, and even then no lawsuit. It's a lawyer suing on behalf of the deceased guitarisrt Randy California. Tragic story-- California drowned in 1997 saving (successfully) his son from a rip current in Hawaii.

SPIRIT IS LIEING!!!!
I WROTE STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN!!!! ON A BET WITH THE DEVIL! SPIRITI CAN TAKE A FLYING LEAP!!!
CNN is reporting that Spirit didn't have the money to pursue a law suit before this. There's a 6 page spread about it, in this week's Bloomberg Business Week magazine. Page 66. There's a picture of a soccer player on the cover. This is not the 1st time Zeppelin has been accursed of stealing, and it may not be the last time they settle out of court.

For 43 years they didn't have the money and now they do? Sounds more like now is when they need money, and this looks like a quick buck from a rich target. It might work, but there are lots of similar sounding songs and parts of songs. Thr previous cases against Led Zep involved lyrics, except the one with Howlin' Wolf, where he was credited as the author on the album but not the liner.
You could be right anout the money in 40 years. Spirit use to tour with Zep in the early days, before they were ZEPPELIN. A dumb judge is gonna say; sounds the same, its copyright infringement. But if the judge has a good ear, it may not pass the sniff test. You can't just change cords or scales and say its the same. Chuck Berry sued the Beach Boys. Huey Lewis was involved with a tune from "Ghostbusters". Numerous other cases are dam interesting. Frankie Valle passed away yesterday.
Thanks for the recent posts. On the Fleetwood Mac question I gather that everyone has joined this new tour.
