" Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go " and " Faith " are two great songs put out by the late George Michaels. While with his group WHAM they released the Christmas song " Last Christmas ", a bit of an odd coincidence somehow.

The Beatles.

I love the Stones and lots of others, but the Beatles were IT. Everyone else was an also-ran. The Beatles just turned the world upside-down without seeming to break a sweat and everyone else struggled to keep up.

well, the stones did the same thing. stating they were "also ran" is beneath you, or, anyone else. they made music that was and is still loved.

i'm a beatles fan, and i've read books about their journey. but, there were so many great musicians at that time. stating that others were "also-rans" is a disservice to them.

so, you fail, sir.

this reminds me of conversations about who was the best baseball player? football player?  

some things are objective. if one thinks guns and roses is the best band ever, there may not be a way to tell him or her they aren't. but, that's the point. they think it, as you think the beatles are the end all.

   ---   Well of course The Beatles were great and they led off the " British Invasion " ( with some important help from Ed Sullivan ) but what about the period prior to 1964 ? Elvis was the King. Buddy Holly was no slouch and if I recall correctly his name for his group ( The Crickets ) was the inspiration for the name " The Beatles " ( with a little bit of a play on words   lol ). Let us not forget " The Big O ", Roy Orbison. We should also remember the Blues Singers who started things off as well as the artists who stood on their shoulders like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Sam Cooke, the Everly Brothers and many many others.   

  " The Day The Music Died " was on Feb 3rd, 1959 when a famous plane crash occurred killing Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. Today Tommy Allsup passed away at age 85. Allsup would have been on that plane however he lost a coin-toss to Valens. The loss of that coin-toss gave Allsup another 57 years on this planet ( odd the way things can go sometimes ).

Thanks for the post AlCzervik. Yes I've heard that story from a couple of sources over the years. Btw Waylon Jennings was also supposed to be on that plane but The Big Bopper took his place, I'm not sure anymore how that came to occur.

well, history really does repeat itself. i don't remember any coin flip in 1990, but stevie ray vaughn died in a helicopter crash after a show with robert cray and eric clapton. the details of who had which seat on the helicopter seem to be a mystery. 

i remember that vividly, because i couldn't get a ticket to the show.
