The Degradation of Human Contact

Can't argue with that. However, since people are jerks online, some people are jerks IRL, and some people are just jerks in general. While online communication may make some people more bold with what they say, I think the majority of people that will be rude and combative online will be the same way of you had interacted with them in person.

Sorry. But you write too much like a computer bot.

I sincerely hope that's not true, but -- bye bye, and "Have a Great Day." happy

I just looked up that R. E. Howard quote. I had it close enough.

"Barbarism is the natural state of mankind. Civilization is unnatural. It is a whim of circumstance. And barbarism must always ultimately triumph." - Robert E, Howard

Speaking of Howard, I found his "Bear Creek Collection" hilarious and enjoyable. It's a collection of adventures told from the perspective of the main character, a post civil war mountain man from the Humboldt Mountains in Nevada. The guy is a walking, talking mountain with almost as many brains as a rock.
I first found it on librivox.org but have since found it on YouTube. There are two volumes and the reader does a beyond excellent job.

The history of the word "barbarian" goes back at least until ancient Greece. It referred to people who did not speak Greek or outliers who spoke a different dialect. The Romans, basically transplanted Greeks, used it to refer to any tribes not purely Roman. The later Byzantines added the derogatory reference towards Turks. Later, Arabs used their version to slur Africans.

There is a Latin version I have forgotten that simply means "other".

Such is human nature.
