The Great Question (A.K.A. BLUE or RED button)

Hi everyone, back from a break... and as the dilemma was pretty well-known on Twitter (now X), I was wondering what would chess.com users answer to this.

This refers to a thought experiment and hypothetical question proposing a philosophical ethical dilemma (similar to the Trolley Problem) in which everyone in the world must take a private vote by pressing either a red or blue button, with the rules being that if more than 50 percent of people press the blue button, everyone survives, but if less than half of people press the blue button, only those who pushed the red one will survive.
To try to answer this, I thought of a poll, where each member could vote ONCE for their pick.
Debate is also open, as it would be more interesting to have people argue over what would be the best choice rather than just mere unthoughtful votes.
I'lll try my best to keep up with the comments, have fun ! (?)
PS : vote as if you didn't know the results, this is just a poll and might not represent the real thing
Votes for the BLUE button : 8
Votes for the RED button : 11

The blue button makes the most sense to me. I don't see the issue with everyone living.

Sure, but you'd die if the majority chose red

I’d choose blue too

#2 if everyone chooses red, then nothing happens, because only those who chose the blue button will die, so if you think about it, red can save everyone if everyone picks red.

The same can be said about blue.

#6 Yeah but blue has a higher risk because people can still choose red, and then more than half red and all blues die. Meanwhile, if you choose red, everyone has a 100% chance of living if all choose red, and even if blue gets the majority of votes, it says EVERYONE survives, not just blues, therefore, blue is a 50/50 chance of survival, while red is a guaranteed chance of survival.

why would people not press the blue

In my part about blue I meant if more than half choose red then all blues die btw it was a typo not more than half red and all blues die

#10 red is a guaranteed chance of living, while blue is more of a 50/50

if most people pick red, then people die

if most people pick blue, no one dies

but maybe i'm missing something, idk

i say vote random colors and we all die

If everyone thinks about it and presses red, since all reds survive and all blues die, everyone survives. Therefore, the survival is guaranteed. Also, if most people pick blue, there’s literally no penalty for reds

Bcuz if YOU pick blue, there’s still a chance that more people pick red, and then you die, BUUUT if YOU pick red, then you have a 100% chance of living, no matter which side wins. MEANING if EVERYONE is aware of this, if all pick red, then everyone lives, no matter which side wins.
