Hey guys. Who is the greatest running back in the NFL of all-time? Mine is Jim Brown. Let the debate begin!

DrStrangeLuft

There have been a number of greats. Hard to argue with Jim Brown.

Yes, my #2 is Walter Payton.

Adrian Peterson? Not on my Top 10 list. Maybe Top 75, at best.

It's Jim Brown! Then there is a loooooooooooooong gap before you get to the rest of the top 5.

CHCL

Jim Brown, but I really think Adrian Peterson is really good. You can't argue he is not bad.

everyone says jim brown...in the days of a running league....he was the best...he had a way of running over / thru defenders..for sure..but that is exactly what shortened his career IMO.... my vote goes to barry sanders....faster, more durable...and a class act all the way....and left on his own terms...healthy...

i'll admit my bias having actually seen sanders at the silverdome in pontiac, MI.

as for AP? time will tell...he may surpass sanders in rushing yards...but sanders was exciting to watch..ya just never knew...what looked like a 5 yd loss could easily turn into a 20+ yd run...AP runs n/s...great back..but im gonna always be partial to sanders...

just my opinion...

What about Gale Sayers? Fantastic back for the Chicago Bears. Some of his YouTube clips are amazing. Not a power back, but he had moves that made defenders look ridiculous.

Adrian Peterson's always a threat to break a big run too and probably has more power than Sayers had, but a lot of that's got to be due to advances in training, supplements, etc. interesting that no one's mentioned Eric Dickerson yet since he holds the single-season rushing record. I didn't see him play much since his games weren't televised where I live

John Riggins and Larry Czonka were good power backs too but I wouldn't put them in the top 10 overall. Earl Campbell was an awesome power back and there's a great clip on YouTube of a goal-line collision between Campbell and Jack Tatum of the Raiders. Campbell got his bell rung but still fell into the end zone and scored

He's my #5 on my list.

Eric is #8 on my list.

Is Earl Campbell on your list? Gale Sayers and Earl Campbell would have been a great backfield. I was never that into Franco Harris and O.J. Can't even remember who was in the backfield during all those years the 49ers were winning championships with Montana or who the running backs were during the Super Bowl years of the Patriots

Earl's at my #6.

Marshall Faulk. Perhaps not as great of a pure runner as Barry sanders but his ability to catch a ball out of the backfield puts him on a whole other level.

Probably the best versatile running back who ever lived. He's #8 on my list.

How about Fridge Perry? He was pretty good on those third and goals with less than a yard to go

Psalm25

So who's your #4?

Psalm25

Fridge Perry once broke off an 80-yard run. It took over three hours.
