How predictable that you would spew a Trumpian bunch of anti science. I'm sure you hate and fear inoculations as well. Your Trump god will end up in the shame of the first President to go to jail. And I will dance in the street on that glorious day. We will add more Democrats to both houses in the mid terms. Your day in the sun is done! I would dance naked in the street but I'll spare my neighbors that sight. Even old people don't want to see naked old people.
The Green Movement is a doomsday cult

I have two moderna vaccinations and will also get the covid/influenza booster this Fall.
The Green Movement is largely religion, rather than science.
My degrees are in the geological sciences, and my professional sub-specialties included paleoclimatology derived from micro paleontology.
Use sunscreen if you go dancing!

Thanks for the intersting blog Jamie.
I wonder why all those illegal covid infected, drug smuggling, child abusers are allowed to cross the border during such apocalyptic times?
Oh that's right!
They're following the science!

They prefer to be called undocumented Democrats.

try actually proving some science yourself before going on a paragraph long spat about how you hate a group of people.

Im no climate expert, or scientist but from what I read the earth is hotting up , and there are more extremes of weather it seems . The scientists as far as I can gather are generally agreed that some of this is influenced by human activity and if so its seems logical to want to do something about it.
A couple of years ago France recorded its highest temperature , over 46° . I see just yesterday that Sicily reached over 48 ( to be officially confirmed).
It may be mans fault, it may be part of a cycle the earth goes through every million years or so, but if our actions can stop or slow this it seems logical to do so.
Oddly enough whilst most of Europe has had a very hot summer , France has been the exception ! Most rain recorded in July since 1987 , and temperatures well below normal .
My tomatoes have withered , but the courgettes have been brilliant!
🥒 ( Sliced , left to lose water for a while then grilled at 240° 15 mins each side . Served cold ...........Yummy. )

“He said governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before it goes beyond human control.
As the warming melts polar icecaps, ocean levels will rise by up to three feet, enough to cover the Maldives and other flat island nations, Brown told The Associated Press in an interview on Wednesday.”
That sounds pretty bad

“He said governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before it goes beyond human control.”
10 years….that’s pretty apocalyptic
“Shifting climate patterns would bring back 1930s Dust Bowl conditions to Canadian and U.S. wheatlands, while the Soviet Union could reap bumper crops if it adapts its agriculture in time, according to a study by UNEP and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis.”

That article was from 1992….my bad
And it starts off:
“A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.”

Yeah I wouldn’t trust anything these people say

Following in the hope that this thread has legs.
Legs like Usain Bolt, I'm sure...

You're right. You shouldn't trust that article. It was just a mess up on the AP's part. The UN official speaking to the Associated Press was NOT a climate scientist, but rather just a representative. The papers/study he was trying to cite was in the works when he gave the interview.
The study (redirects to a pdf file) was released about a year later which had projections that went into the year 2100, not 2000.
AP could have just avoided the confusion by wording the article properly.

“A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.”
This statement is frequently presented as an example of climate scientists being both alarmist and incorrect, and serves as the basis for clickbait posts from several climate denial media outlets.
None of these scientific papers asserted that this would happen by the year 2000 — as some have taken the Associated Press lede to suggest — nor do they say anything about a 10-year window of time before that fate is sealed. (sic)

In the history of the world these same idiots have ALWAYS predicted “the end” and are ALWAYS wrong
Ehrlich sketched out his most alarmist scenario for the 1970 Earth Day issue of The Progressive, assuring readers that between 1980 and 1989, some 4 billion people, including 65 million Americans, would perish in the “Great Die-Off.”
“It is already too late to avoid mass starvation,” declared Denis Hayes, the chief organizer for Earth Day, in the Spring 1970 issue of The Living Wilderness.
Peter Gunter, a North Texas State University professor, wrote in 1970, “Demographers agree almost unanimously on the following grim timetable: by 1975 widespread famines will begin in India; these will spread by 1990 to include all of India, Pakistan, China and the Near East, Africa. By the year 2000, or conceivably sooner, South and Central America will exist under famine conditions….By the year 2000, thirty years from now, the entire world, with the exception of Western Europe, North America, and Australia, will be in famine.”

In January 1970, Life reported, “Scientists have solid experimental and theoretical evidence to support…the following predictions: In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution…by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half….”
Ecologist Kenneth Watt told Time that, “At the present rate of nitrogen buildup, it’s only a matter of time before light will be filtered out of the atmosphere and none of our land will be usable.”
Ecologist Kenneth Watt declared, “By the year 2000, if present trends continue, we will be using up crude oil at such a rate…that there won’t be any more crude oil. You’ll drive up to the pump and say, `Fill ‘er up, buddy,’ and he’ll say, `I am very sorry, there isn’t any.'”
Harrison Brown, a scientist at the National Academy of Sciences, published a chart in Scientific American that looked at metal reserves and estimated the humanity would totally run out of copper shortly after 2000. Lead, zinc, tin, gold, and silver would be gone before 1990.

Petitbonom - the Earth has been steadily warming since the depths of the last global glaciation, 22,000 years ago. The "Younger Dryas event" occurred about 12,800 years ago and marked the end of a 100,000 +/- year deep glaciation. The Earth was so cold and the atmospheric CO2 level were so low that plant life was almost crippled.
Both the beginning and the end of the Younger Dryas event saw ambient global temperatures change as much as 10 degrees C in a decade or two.
Warming to a lusher, more bioproductive state is, in reality, a good thing. And the Earth has been here before, in geologic past.
P.S. - I grow zucchini squash too. Used some last night in a Panang chicken curry.

I already knew that but some others may have been in doubt

Apocalypse porn - spiked (spiked-online.com)
There’s a new trend online. Forget blacking out your Instagram page to show how much you care for black lives. Never mind bigging up your pronouns. That’s so last month. Right now it’s all about apocalypse porn. Across social media, the caring set are sharing images of the ‘hellfires’ in Greece and the aftermath of the floods in Europe and the wildfire currently raging in Northern California, all with the same message: this is climate change. This is the world our greedy, destructive species has created. This is the hell that awaits us all if we don’t stop taking cheap flights to Malaga and drinking from plastic straws. ‘Welcome to global warming!’, as one observer of the Greek fires quipped.
Apocalypse porn is everywhere. You can’t open a newspaper or switch on a tablet right now without being confronted with images of fire and floods. Plagues of locusts can’t be far behind. The front page of this morning’s Guardian is devoted to an image of an elderly Greek woman in a state of distress as an ‘inferno’ nears her home on the island of Evia. (Funny, I don’t remember the Guardian rallying behind the elderly Greeks who were pummelled by the distinctly manmade horror of EU austerity, but let’s not dwell on bygones.) Footage of Greeks sailing away from a raging fire has been shared hundreds of thousands of times. ‘Very apocalyptic’, said one journalist. Not just apocalyptic, but really apocalyptic. We’re beyond Revelations – this is worse.
The recent European floods are spoken of as warnings to mankind, as if Nature were a sentient force reprimanding us for our hubris and folly. Footage of flooded German and Belgian towns was marshalled by armies of virtue-signallers to the cause of ‘raising awareness’ about man’s self-made apocalypse. ‘How many dead will we accept [before we act]?’, asked one Belgian scientist. Change your ways or people will die. Images of flooded Tube stations in London were instantly held up as glimpses of the future, warnings from the generation of the 2050s who will live short, hot, suffering lives if we don’t achieve Net Zero in the next five years. It all echoed leading green thinker Mark Lynas’s medieval sermon several years back – that if humanity doesn’t change its ways, then ‘Poseidon [will be] angered… his wrath will know no bounds’.
