LOL

Figuring out identity is not nearly as important as finding out why you exist. The former and the latter are closely tied, and no man-made label can separate that tie.

Feufollet

Do you really think any man/woman on earth would ever really figure out why he/she exists?....

Don't take photos for it...like lucamovitch says ...they're not 3D

I have been "out there", that's how I know these are modfied ;)...

- "enhanced" moss on the cliff...two distinct color strokes

- light filtering brightened, mostly on right side of image

- "enhanced" turquoise blue at the far shoreline

They are subtle changes, to be sure, but they make all the difference in terms of taking a naturally beautiful photo and turning it into an unnaturally idyllic scene.

P.S. "3D"?  Ummm, yes, of course I agree, these photos are definitely not 3D...who said they were?

Is Niagara Falls photoshopped too?

Sometimes...depends on the photo.

Good grief, mersaphe...you should go and find yourself a girlfriend in real life instead of just dreaming about them on the internet.

This is really interesing, but does chess have anyhing to do with life, reality and chemical reactions?

Pulpofeira

I'm tired of telling him, BL.

In real life, you can't have hundreds all at once.

Pamukkale. I've been there

Okay.  Great.  This is probably not a modified photo...the lighting looks fine, and the texturing is not conducive to modification...the water is too reflective, porous rock is much harder to fake than "moss" and waterfall spray, etc.

Why would that have any bearing on the other photo?  Is your premise that because one striking nature photo is untouched that all of them must therefore be also unmodified?

Feufollet

Chess activates the chemical and electrical firings in your brain in very specific ways....different from what occurs in the brain whilst listening to Beethoven, par exemple

Iluvsmetuna

Beethoven doesn't activate adrenaline at all.

This thing about we believe we have free will, to me is just an example of the exaggerated importance we humans give to ourselves when we don't understand something. For example we are at the centre of the universe, the world rotates around us being previous beliefs. Why should we be able to control the universe?

Beautiful landscapes and the universe itself are truly awe-inspiring, but strictly speaking, I don't see how that really proves anything.

I also don't see how we can get around without the concept of identity. Language itself would be impossible if we didn't allow words to represent the concepts in our minds that we wish them to represent. In one sense you could consider it an illusion since the idea itself has little physical substance, other than the neural activity that gives rise to it. On the other hand, without this representative concept, the ability to think and reason--at least in the way we do it--would seem impossible, like having a language without any grammar.

This is the point Hawkins is making. That we believe we have free will in order to cope with things. I personally find it liberating to let go of anger to myself or others for failings and instead to see them as just part of cause and effect within the universe.

I see that you have expert eye on what is photoshopped or not...are you a photographer?

Notwithstanding the photoshoppiness of photos found on google...you can't deny the beauty of nature...since you said you've been out there.

Our words fall on deaf ears...or in the internet's case - blind eyes....
