#498, nobody cares about private schoolers, to a home schooler, they are the same thing as public schools.

I have the public schooled friend, his education is really in the lacking, you can tell by talking to him. He’s the same age as me but doesn’t understand basic things I mention. I like the guy but he’s not great to hang around if you want to have an actual discussion. Like most public schoolers I’ve met, he’s incredibly shallow and doesn’t care about almost anything, he’s just another cog in the machine following society’s plan for him without thinking twice, no, without even thinking once. He has lots of “friends” but I’m constantly hearing about crappy things they do to him and each other.
I win the argument now right? Since I have an example of a stereotypical public schooler in the real world, so that’s how they all must behave. If you weren’t able to tell until now, the point of this post to prove a point about giving random examples of people when you are trying to argue against a system of education.

One, you just told me I have no irl friends, but I actually agree with that. Two, I completely agree with the second paragraph. Most arguments in this thread are only taking into account their personal experience. Three, how is this post so relatable for me?

But I disagree with the thing about private schools. I don’t know much about the education system in the United States, but in India most people just can’t afford private schooling and go to government schools. The money filters out a lot of stuff and greatly lessens pressure on infrastructure. They are generally better than the public schoolers, even if you take into account the brainrot. The kids in the private schools perform better on tests, are physically more capable and work together more. The best students of the private schools are also mostly just better at a lot of things. Their football teams are better, the drama school team gets at least five trophies every year and the average people perform better on standardised tests. I think in general, they might be equal to or better off than the homeschoolers in other countries (homeschooling isn’t allowed in India). They have a lot of social interaction, and have resources of similar magnitude.

However, there’s a lot of reasons for this. Many students in public schools simply don’t care enough to get good grades, and struggle with other problems, such as financial issues at home. Parents who are willing to homeschool their kids make a good wage, have time on their hands, and they motivate their kids to get good grades and continue studying.

duh, higher averages

if someone is homeschooled, their parents care, and have the time.

sometimes, public school students have parents that do, literally nothing

private schools are better in most countries ngl

like in America, if you put a child in some stupid public preschool, I can guarantee, they learn nothing.

Most kids aren't entitled and lucky enough to be homeschooled.

There's a spectrum...public schooling has more rigid standards and so the high and low end are not as far apart. Home schooling *can* be the best of all possible educations, or it can be the worst. Depends on your teachers, and more importantly, exactly what they are deciding to teach you.

Human nature would seem to dictate that on average, unregulated education will fall below average over time. For every math and music prodigy taught by their loving and attentive scientist and composer parents (some Utopian ideal not often reached), there are many being taught that learning and doing basic chores are schoolwork/education, and that reading books with a non-scientific agenda that steer away from certain things are more important than getting a broad foundation of knowledge and learning to think critically.

I don't agree with homeschooling simply because kids who are homeschooled don't get enough social interaction and are much too sheltered for their entire childhood. Usually, homeschool students are more advanced academically, but fail to have good social skills or the 'rules' of society.

Also, it's much easier to indoctrinate your kids into thinking a certain way, especially religiously.

My parents told me that there's no reason for a kid to be homeschooled unless they're overly religious and can't be exposed to different points of view or have a disability that makes getting an education incredibly difficult. And I don't disagree.

I don't disagree either. In practice, this is often the case, but in theory, home schooling can be amazing. Personally, I like Montessori schools, if they have a good set of teachers that actually know how to implement self-directed learning and not just use the system like a glorified daycare.
