Seems to me the fundamental ethics difference between British monarchy and American democracy is that the latter does not share Nelson's sense of duty; i.e., "rugged individualism" is the American theme.  But, when we compare and contrast two great cities of the world, London and NYC, can we say that the form of government made a difference in what they represent--major industrial capitols?

NM Impractical.....Not sure I understand what you're saying there old chap.

In GB law is driven by each individual's duty to country/monarch, whereas in America law is about the rights of the citizens.  Americans largely do not feel obligation to others, but demand their rights to do whatever ("What can I get away with?").  So, Brits seems to be "nicer" than Yanks.

But when you look at the end results, both systems of government provide frameworks for commerce---so it may not matter a great deal under which form of government people live.  You end up with big cities and lots of traffic.

Nicer?..I have lived in The US and in Britain - London and San Francisco to be exact. My experience was that the people of both countries were totally brill. I was made to feel welcome in both and made many friends. When you travel the world as much as I have you realise how very similar The US, Britain, Australia, Canada etc are in culture, values, poltics, law and in most other social institutions. To the point where opne can be in Sydney, Melbourne, New York, London, San Francisco, Toronto etc and sometimes if you couldn't hear an accent, you could be in any one of those cities. I think thsoe of us that live in those places are very very lucky no matter how you look at it.

Hi, Paris is just for tourism, just frenchies live in all the year, and on holidays they ...stay there too. We have few in common with UK, except Eurotunnel, we love them. And smoke tyres too.

Monarchy in itself is to distinguish from Monarchy in UK.

Monarchy in itself , with constitution, avoids to elect a president and thus is good for tax payer. With a first born native succession system, it is really economic, theoretically. In  Danmark, Holland, yes, In Belgian no (three parliaments + European = 4 Parliaments, not a joke for tax payers, parliament is first and alone industry in Belgian, oops! chocolate too truth!!!!)

Monarchy in UK attracts tourists, suppose you have no monarchy, what money would UK save or win or lose ? sterling pounds notes with nice paper pics in ! What would they show to turists?  weather.

This argument about tourism money was used when royal UK ship was sold : many monarchists cried it's a pity because contracts were signed on the boat. Really !!! I swear . Now in lobbies from hotel you can find an armchair or two, or a table corner, it works for american !

Her Majesty The Queen has another function, full time job, everybody forgets : be chief of 50 mio. Anglicans, hard job to deal with soul's problems. Suppose no monarchy anymore, pope François, Athenagoras Pop, first bishop, who keeps the soul shop ? who could replace Her in Her deepest knowledges in theologia ? retired Tony Blair ?? He may have changed his faith who knows ?

In France plenty of people love Her Majesty, LadiDi, all family, read dedicated papers and news .... and would'nt that system for us. I really don't know why such a dichotomia.Embarassed

YES K21 TY tony Blair could choose to be anglican again to be the boss of the church in case Republic of UK would be created, or a Revolution conducted by migs?  like Henry IV in France, but from Papists to no Papists.

TY the pic had nothing to do with someone we knowEmbarassed

Frenchie....Tony Blair officially became Catholic after he left his post as PM. He probably always was a Catholic but kept it a secret because of what was happening in Northern Ireland.

My wife thinks the kids' English teacher is, well, English. Her name is Dolores and she wears a medal of Mary. I told her: "you could ask, but be careful!"

Given his past actions, if Tony Blair is really a Catholic he should retire as a monk, and kill himself if he was an atheist. Not sure about Luterans/Anglicans though.

Avatar of 17rileyc

Maybe he could both retire as a monk and kill himself as a Catholic Atheist.

ANOK1.... You might want to delete your earlier post as it could be seen by some as libel.

Avatar of 17rileyc

Here in 'Murica we don't have to worry about such things. Obama doesn't care if we blame him for our daily maledictions.

Avatar of ANOK1

which that a legal action is being pursued against the windsors for child abduction and rape in canada , it aint libel kayak its a fact the case has been put ,

all im doing is pointing it out that this is something that has been done the windsors are not contesting it in court they just are ignoring it
