So the pubs are 24 hr. Now?

Where?

He is referring to a change in British law quite a few years back. The change led to pubs opening 21 minutes longer on average. Smile

I thought that might be the case! Didn't know the 21 minute figure so thanks for that.

YUP.

You better KNOW IT.

But not from swallowing everything that is fed to you from that hat or uniform of authority...you better get KNOWLEDGE ON YOUR OWN THINKING. I invite people to do their own thinking. Try it. You might find that your own brain is quite capable and full of surprises. Turn off the TV. The internet is here to dig on your own....choose a topic of interest - read articles you find on it from every angle and sides of the spectrum. And be very SKEPTICAL of everything you read. Know the agenda ("perspective") of the author who has written the article you are reading. If you remember how your brain worked when you were 10 or even 5 years old when you're curious about everything and trying to figure out and make sense of things. Do this for 10 years....after a while you see patterns very easily...and you can tell the lies, the bullshits from the truths quite easily...and not have to waste so much time.

You'll feel comfortable with your own knowledge to be able to readily throw the B.S. pouring out of the PhD'd guy's mouth in his white coat into the garbage.

I know I'm coming off as arrogant. No need to tell me. Don't take this for youself if it doesn't apply.

p.s. I'm using "YOU" in the general sense...

How could there be global warming when it is colder today than it was 6 months ago?

Feufollet

Global warming is real and it is man-made.

With China now in the thick black smog of capitalistic industrialization ("modernization") and India joining and nowhere near ready to stop -

Oil prices down, natural gasses fracked....yay! let's burn everything that is burnable!

Y'all ain't seen nothing yet.

God have mercy and let me and the people I love NOT be reborn on this rock.

I don't want to be here 50 years from now.

Forget global warming.  I am more worried about Global Darkness:

Emil Faber was the fictional founder of Faber College, the location of the Delta Tau Chi fraternity in the film "Animal House."

"Knowledge is good" was the inscription on the base of Emil Faber's statue.

Let's not have personal (ad hominem) attacks, please.  Every one is entitled to their opinion, and more importantly, you are entitled to mine.

JamieDelarosa

Bluto: What the fuck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer...

Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic... but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons, but that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part!

Bluto: We're just the guys to do it.

Feufollet

p.s. when I used "you" in my #55 post, it was strictly in the general sense...

wasn't aimed at you, jamiedelarosa. thought it best to clarify.

JamieDelarosa

No problem.  I enjoy a robust, if at times irrational, discussion.

fabelhaft

"People believe science is the answer to everything. Yet, its application is often more detrimental than the problem was"

Tell that to the people that went to the doctor in the middle ages.

JamieDelarosa

Or the Barber!

Feufollet

The key is to educate oneself. You'll get to the point of knowing everybody's perspective (and agendas)....you'll be able to smell bullshit when you see it...and not waste so much time with people's meaningless hair-splitting verbosity

Iluvsmetuna

No, once you see the bullshit, there's no need to smell it :)

Feufollet

touché, iluvsmetuna.

even more terse and succinctly put.
