The State of the Forums or Down the Rabbit Hole

I doubt that, through context alone.

But I don't like to Americanize much. Whatever the equivalent is.

There are plenty of adults, and there are a few titled players... but (currently) no adult titled players.

I'm not titled (and I'm not good enough to be titled) but I'm just saying... the forums are not appealing to a certain demographic. People like Clifton, Ozzy, Reb, nobodyreally and Pfren posted infrequently at first, and now not at all.

Reb posts right-wing nonsense daily in The Ideas Room. I’d rather see him posting something he understands: chess.

There are enough old folks with dementia (literally) spewing right wing garbage in my family.

Unthankfully I don't need to look for it online.

in "al's group" there is agreement on some things, yes. trump a liar? check. paid off a pornstar? check.

if you care to debate policy, you will find some fine minds there. many members are well-equipped to handle any type of debate because they read a lot and know some history.

In all fairness to Al's group, I don't have experience of it.

Saw you promoting it, and referring to the way that it was promoted. Seemed somewhat confrontational: "if you've got the scrotum to join my club!", etc.

Don't exactly need to be bloody Mystic Meg to sense a bit of bias.

i only mentioned the group because politics was brought up in this topic that is not political. well, that and i get tired of people saying or writing things they think they believe in but only stay on the fringe of debate or discussion, only posturing but not willing to get into the weeds on specifics.

the confrontational part, to me, was members injecting what used to be a restricted issue into this topic and possibly getting it locked.

i've invited a number of people in this topic to join the group. all have been unresponsive or have said no.

also, i put "al's group" in quotation marks because it is not my group. it is the members that run it.

he did not write 'hate'.

on this i am in complete agreement with llama. reb and lancer are titled players. they spend their time here spewing nonsensical comments about current events and politics. as titled players they are allowed more leeway here, another account, i believe? even if that has been stopped, these guys come to the site to spout bile because of their political lean.

compare that to pfren. or clifton. or ozzy.

If by "Al's group" you mean the topic where he published a "blocked" list of dozens he won't let post I've seen it.  Seems silly to make a topic on a public forum then block the public from it.

Would that be a complaint about your previous entity, itude? Aren't you supposed to be banned from the site and not just this or that team?

gee, i didn't see "being a role model" in tos.

when kids state things as facts that are clearly wrong, my derision is warranted.

that's what i have seen, and that was my example-a kid telling you ww1 didn't happen. in a few of the groups here i have provided numerous sources of information to little effect, including to adults. in my time here it appears many youngsters are indoctrinated to believe, regurgitating what their parents say or what friends told them instead of doing their due diligence-even when presented with facts.

Now you are describing The Ideas Room, and their most active members, to a t.

You kept publishing gay sex in the ideas room iirc.

I think you thought you were "sticking it to the right-wingers", when you just came across as gay tbh.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's 2021.

It's quite funny how people whine about quite basic unmoderated informal chit-chat.

Let's face it; you want the guy censored for having a different opinion. That's how you deal with things. And these forums become even more boring; lack even more variety.

Join Al's group where everyone agrees with you, and you won't have a cry.

Are you referring to photos I culled from Twitter when gay men took over the hashtag #ProudBoys?

I wouldn’t call that “sex”, but there were some men kissing, and maybe a link to a drag queen doing a mock strip tease. It was an important illustration of a queer way to fight back against hate. Queer in this case being another term promoted as positive, as when a lesbian colleague of mine from graduate called one of our professors the “queerest straight man” they knew. He was pleased with the compliment.

I’m in Al’s group.

I have brought that up with staff, and some agree with me, but they have said that Erik does not want to do anything that will hurt membership.

what about those that blog a lot, like batgirl and blackfirestorm?

what about those that are admins in groups?

in a post after this one, you mentioned the site is about quantity, and i believe this to be true. we can only guess at the revenue brought in through advertising, but it is probably based purely on the numbers, and your suggestion would, i think, drastically reduce membership.

batgirl doesn't blog here anymore.  And as i have posted before.  When this site alienates a long time, in good standing member like batgirl?  That says a lot about the direction this site is going.  Site statement:  "We want less quality content, and more pogchamps, more short attention span players, more inane posts on brilliant moves, caps score, did i create a new opening?, blah...blah...blah...

Like i said.  If it wasnt for my free diamond membership i would be here.

Do you think that it comes across a bit absurd to be complaining about unmoderated chit-chat on the one hand, whilst spamming a board with videos of drag queens stripping (and the rest) on the other?

"When this site alienates a long time, in good standing member like batgirl?  That says a lot about the direction this site is going".                                                             They did the same to Kohai. The military does the same. They make use of your arms & legs and then put you out to pasture. There's no job security anyplace. frustrated.png

IMKeto

Which is why i will not invest my time or money into this site.   I have seen to many things that dont make sense.  And as bad of a moderator as i was, the lack of training, and the moderator handbook were even worse.  I was offered a job on the cheat detection team.  I filled out my application and submitted it.  I didn't hear anything back after a couple days so i contacted Erik.  His response was how sorry he is, but they filled the position.  Post and do whatever you want, just dont discuss cheating.

We were discussing politics. I was bringing in relevant political engagement of a creative nature. It was not spam. It was appropriate, relevant, and clearly too challenging for the homophobic conservatives in the group.

Problem5826

Different opinions.

I considered it nonsense spam.

You may consider it saving the world, or whatever else.

But certainly I would call that "unmoderated informal chit-chat" of the sort that you seem to be complaining about.

There is a clear difference.

Your memory of what I posted is deficient.

You were slagging off "the ideas room" (which is unmoderated chit-chat) without taking into account your own contributions to that chat, which I consider to be often enough nonsense spam.

Pulpofeira

He could be slagging off that specific group for a different reason that being unmoderated chit-chat. I could figure out some.
