yes you can choose to believe, tom, where lies your difficulty ? do you feel people can only be forced to believe, or born with beliefs implanted by the universe ?
Einstein didnt believe in free will, he didn't say it was his experience. he wanted a certain angle, so he chose freely to not believe in free will, and took another scientists viewpoint.
A viewpoint is a viewpoint, not a fact. Anyway, it can mean whatever you want it to mean as Einstein decided.

my belief is that our beliefs come as an amalgamation of our expereince.
For example you have sunk in water and now you expect things sink in water.

it's a nice point you make though.
We do interpret our beliefs to suit ourselves.
I recall Al Gore saying a man wouldn't believe something that would make him unemployed. Maybe sometimes we don't want to see the truth.

I guess it means that a soul could exist if that doesn't contradict anything .
Well it contradicts causality for one . If all we are is part of a chain of cause and effect how can we exist at all?
