Topic Lockers : Hypocrisy ?

The recent forum, Smoking and Chess gets locked down with the commandment from on high: 'No politics'.
After15 months and the hundred-odd posts to this forum, many on the screamingly political topic of tobacco and other drugs, the forum is suddenly locked. 
Was this  because it strayed into the current Tweedledum and Tweedle-even-dumber circus, soon to annoint the next frontman for the Usual Suspects that actually run the joint? And was the forum locker the member beneath whose avatar the edict of no politics appeared ? 
This isn't simply the Crimson Rosella playing the goose. (?!)
I am genuinely interested to learn more of the principle of -selective- censorhip as practiced at Chess.com. (A dotcom near and -happily- increasingly dear to me!)

Chess.com threw a "tarp" over that one for sure.
