BoneLands sounds like it would be right up your alley. It is turn based, plays sort of like chess but with different fantasy characters and you try to hold positions on the board to win instead of elimiation of a king.

Greetings, new to the forums. I am looking for recommendations for games with chess-like properties – positions with good puzzle properties, opportunity for both strategy and highly esthetic tactical combinations. Ideally online e.g. phone games with good communities.
I also bring a recommendation – uniwar ($0.99 on Android and iPhone). I have no affiliation, but have spent a bunch of time on it now, and find the reasons I got sucked in are pretty much rooted in chess-like properties. It's sort of a sci-fi themed chess version of starcraft, with 3 races (sets of pieces) that can be played on variable (including user-generated) maps with terrain. The game mechanics are relatively simple and elegant and create great game tension and positioning, with a lot of strategy around use of range units etc., and a lot of tactical intrigue via the game's 'gang-up' and 'zone of control' mechanisms. There's a competitive community (including, appropos of chess, some of the top players being Russian). I ended up writing this article applying chess proverbs to the game:

Worth a look if you are a chess fan and have an iPhone/iPad or Android. We could use an injection of new competitive players.
(For more color here's a writeup on a recent tournament game I did:

Anyway, sorry if that's too much sell; in any case I'm interested in finding more games like uniwar. If anyone has any recommendations I'd be happy to hear, thanks much!
