Visualising a Similarity Between Politics and Chess

 Hi:

I'm new to this forum and I thought I would share with the group some photography that touches upon chess and politics. One image that I created is titled "A Depiction of a Man Attempting to 'Clean Up Politics'?"

Any comments about chess, politics, or the connection between them are of course welcome.

Hello to you.  Very interesting photograph/idea.  I have a comment about the connection of chess and politics--

  1. In both, a mistake can be devastating
  2. In both, there always seems to be two sides
  3. In both, there is a king and queen(sometimes)
  4. In both, the initiative is vitally important: whoever is ahead seems to win

I am sure there are other connections, but these are just a few to start off with.

 Hi "PsychoMath"

Those are good points that you mentioned.

There is another that should be mentioned.

In politics as in chess, many of us are "only pawns in the game" whose interests are sacrificed to protect or enhance power of the King. But I think that Obama is someone who at an earlier time in our history would have expected to be cast in the role of a pawn, but circumstances have promoted from pawn to the status of King.

I realise that in a real game of chess the promotion would have been from pawn to Queen (smile)

FYI, I created a blog entry displaying depictions of Barack and Michelle Obama as chess pieces (the King and Queen)
