What a thing to say, is chess a waste of time?

I suppose it would be if you gave up everything to become World champion but never came close.

Chess keeps your logical thinking process nice and healthy. It's a work-out for the mind analogous to going for a jog that keeps you physically fit.

Anybody who goes for a run doesn't mean they're going to enter the Olympics does it.
