"I pray to god to rid me of god."
Meister Eckhart
What I would like to know, in regard to PP's question is this...
Why would an all powerful God want to hide His (assuming "he" is even apropo) identify and require followers to have faith in that which is not "predictable and testable"?
After all, we do have a similar situation with Santa Claus.
What makes you assume that any of them will miss anything because, afterall, they are dead?
Yeah. That is one of the Answers.Probably they won't miss anything even though they necessarily to live their life.

Maybe he is hidden because we already know what we want to see: predictability and testability. What we need is to be rid of the idea of god, to know god. Like a suprise meeting with a friend, without preconceptions how that meeting should look like. Something that CANNOT be repeated; each encounter unlike the other, Unpredictable. Something akin to Nature, only grander, and beyond conceptions.
Albert Einstein — Subtle is the Lord
It's not a good idea to get onto the Einstein quotes.
A letter he wrote expressing his atheism has just sold for $3M. His (non-metaphorical) beliefs are summed up thus:
"The word God for me is nothing more than the product and expression of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection full of honorable but still primitive legends".
"For me the Jewish religion like all other religions is an incarnation of the most childish superstition."

PP: "Maybe he is hidden because we already know what we want to see: predictability and testability."
I don't "know what I want to see". Nor do I "have the faith of a mustard seed". The only way I know how to move mountains is with explosives and a Caterpillar front-loader.
Always remember: Hope is not the same as belief. Nor is hope good reason for belief.
I hope for an afterlife, but I do not believe in one.
I'm beginning to wonder how much Emotional IQ retardedness directly relates to atheism. How far outta touch are you w/ your feelings ? Hilarious !....I mean, it's not that you're physically hollow and shallow....the ? is....how bad off are you ?
Feelings have much to do with the joys and sorrows of life. Yet to let them run amok leads to gullibility and unwise decisions.
MindWalk, here come my promised answer.
I feel sorry for hearing that you only believed in any Spiritual thing during your childhood.
You also deny the possibility of any kind of prove, about those things. You told me that you desperately want a prove. But to that, you need to have "eyes too see"...
So, since you want to believe but need prves, I separated many names of serious people, so you can read, analysis and have your proves.
Since Allan Kardec started the codification of Spiritism, he used a very rigorous analysis to verify if the person was really a medium. Here comes those recomended.
- Ermance Dufaux (French medium - psychographic)
- Sr. Home (Scottish, medium of physical effects)
- Fox Sister (Americans, both was extraordinary mediuns, but they fail in resisting to some tentations about money, and comprometed the work)
- Léon Dennis (Brazilian, was one of those who brings the Spiritism to Brazil).
- Euripedes Barsanulfo (Brazilian. So much respected that was recognized even for the French for his ability of cure).
I'm just mentioning those from century XIX to be "inside" the topic and don't jump a "container" of names over you. But If you want another names I can give.
Just take a look at the life of those mentioned and you will see the proves that you want. For example: Sr. Home was accepted even for the French society of science of that time. I'm not writting all here, to not make too big. Just take a look, to see you find your proves.
(#3303)....I hope for an afterlife, but I do not believe in one.

Of the 100's of posts I've read from the main atheists here on this thread, I can honestly say I cannot remember one (....not one) profound sentence that shows they have even up to an average level of Emotional Intelligence.
Being so deficient in EI, I can now clearly understand why they struggle with the concept of an afterlife....and I find them sadly pathetic.

This two sentences are so simple-minded that, for you, I hope you're not trying to display your EI....'cuz I'd be embarrassed 4u.
Well, Lola, although you are not a brainiac, at least you are coping and groping as best you can. I'd give you an A for effort.
Just an afterthought...
Why is it that you refuse to submit to Allah? Over a billion people do. Can they all be wrong? You'll be sorry in the afterlife! Where are your "feelings"? Have you a hardened heart?

And this is supposed to make me want to have another life?

Tell me a funny joke, and I'll laugh. (In fact, I laugh a lot.) Love me, and I'll love you back. Say something that outrages me, and I'll get upset. If I win the local chess club's championship, as I recently did, and I'll be insufferably pleased with myself for a while (as I am now).
But none of what I feel will make me change my nonbelief in God or an afterlife. And it shouldn't.
MindWalk, here come my promised answer.
I feel sorry for hearing that you only believed in any Spiritual thing during your childhood. I hadn't yet unlearned it. It does take time to unlearn what one is taught while very young.
You also deny the possibility of any kind of prove, about those things. You told me that you desperately want a prove. I desperately want it to be true that there is an afterlife. It would be nice if there were a proof, but I'm not sure how likely it is that there would be one even were there an afterlife. But to that, you need to have "eyes too see"... Solid evidence and sound argumentation will do.
So, since you want to believe but need prves, I separated many names of serious people, so you can read, analysis and have your proves.

- Fox Sister (Americans, both was extraordinary mediuns, but they fail in resisting to some tentations about money, and comprometed the work) Kardec's rigorous analysis seems not to have been so rigorous. The Fox sisters, despite attracting a lot of interest and believers in their abilities, admitted that they were frauds.
- Léon Dennis (Brazilian, was one of those who brings the Spiritism to Brazil).
- Euripedes Barsanulfo (Brazilian. So much respected that was recognized even for the French for his ability of cure).

You just don't get it....do you. These are emotions, not EI. They're like two different things....OMG. See ?....this is what I mean. YKW ?....just 4get I ever brought it up.
I suppose you think that what you just said is rational.
