Yes and if that speculation is true we will never know. The rate of expansion theoretically could surpass the speed of light since the claim is that it is the empty space that is expanding not the actual speed of the stars. Which makes no sense to me.

I can't quote messages on my phone, but to #36 it's probably good to not need to know why. I'd love to know *why* if it could even be defined in terms that make sense to a 'why?' question. I probably won't in my 40 or so years left on earth (all being well), but I would love to. Even if the answer is something obscure and scientific, to do with randomness and quantum fluctuations or whatever, if that's the answer id still like to know it.

Haha I love this thread. We don't know do we, but I hope we (as a species) can continue striving to find out. It seems like the universe is expanding, which implies it started smaller than it is... And the theory goes that it was in fact much much smaller.... But I do think our monkey brains have big trouble with that idea, like we want to insist that if there was a start there must have been a start within *something* or caused by something. And I just don't know if we have that written down anywhere as a guarantee
