Why bring Politics in Sports?

So recently, I was playing with a Russian opponent and I could not see his countries flag anymore. I fail to understand what would we get for bringing Politics into sports. For those who support Ukraine, this will not help or matter to them but for those who are sitting on fence about it, it is only going to prove that America will push it's agenda in the most undemocratic way possible. You say killing civilians is war crime but what about the civilians you are humiliating by removing their countries flag. Hypocrites

Killing civilians and removing a country’s flag are not on the same level. Besides, chess.com is an international organization, us Americans don’t control everything. Third, Russian chess players have been labeled “international” in high ranking tournaments before when Russia invaded Crimea. Don’t act like it’s just the old USA pushing stuff on everyone else.

This has been done by the international community before, which every country contributes to, including India

Who said I am supporting killing civilians? But why bring Politics in Sports. If you want me to believe why nothing of this sort happens when USA invades Afghanistan, Iraq or Vietnam. We know you are the leader in most things but why target civilians ? Are you supporting targeting civilians ?

Who is international community? Do you know it is USA and Europe but Earth is bigger than that SIR

Avatar of Mark12291229
No I do not. I also don’t support these interventions in countries that don’t threaten us. And when we kill civilians of other countries it does cause an uproar to the person who committed it

Also, if India did not approve of the flag change then why didn’t they block chess.com?

Thanks for at least acknowledging that what America did was wrong but did you ever suffer a humiliation because of what America did? Then why do that to your fellow chess players.

Well why do u think I am speaking as an Indian? I am speaking to you as a chess player. Unfortunately India doesn't own an international platform like chess.com that's the power America posseses but you know that old saying ? With more power comes more responsibility ?

I had a lot more to say but it got deleted. One difference is goals. Elimination of Terrorist organization vs Straight up conquest. There is also there difference that the wars in the Middle East had been a dying cause for the past several years, Russia invading Ukraine broke the relative peace in Europe that stood for decades, throwing the world into crisis. I guess the main difference is the final goal. Annexation of a neutral country vs elimination of an organization that causes harm not just to the US but other countries as well.

But this is called Dictatorship, whatever goes up comes down one day. Maybe you will or won't face this in your life time but things are changing as the world is bigger than USA and Europe.

ok so chess.com is a company and is bound by laws mainly us laws , but some international , one being to reduce cyber bullying , due to the often aggressive posts and insulting too that are found in forums certain very fractious subjects are not allowed , in forums , there are discussion groups but they have flaws too , you two could continue this via  messaging or forming a group to talk freely even if you differ

the moderators will of course see your thread and the word politics will stand out , they might keep it unlocked they might not but they dont do it for hypocritical reasons
