I've never met anyone with a fake profile, though some tend to fake themselves, they always tell the truth afterwards, it's weird.
masteria it may be because you trust them.. but sure there are fake profiles here.. but only a very few %..
Wow! What a weird coincidence! I had never heard of "factitious disorder" until last night when I was reading about the Cindy James case, and then this thread pops up with something about factitious disorder!
If y'all never heard about the Cindy James case, it is so strange that I don't know what to think. Briefly, Cindy James was a nurse in Canada, who in the 1980s went to the police and hired a detective to help her against someone who was harrassing and threatening to kill her. She ended up dead, hands tied behind her back and I believe a nylon wrapped around her throat, but after a long investigation the police ruled it a suicide! Here is a link:

I am fake. Psssst...I am really a death row inmate who gets given internet access in exchange for one confession a month about my murderous exploits.

it doesnt matter friend.. Can you tell us why you want to fake? or what comes around one's mind just before trying to fake!
why would i put my real name on the internet? lol
The OP isn't taking about some people willing to remain anonymous on the net. He is taking about fake accounts, people pretending to be someone else. Usually teenage boys or 50 year old pot bellied men picking up some photos from dating sites and using it here.
well that isnt clear. and factitious disorder is about faking illness not about faking internet personas so the OP is kind of not very smart.
yes but is there any other relevant referances?
these are the words i considered while listing that link
"They might be motivated to perpetrate factitious disorders either as a patient or by proxy as a caregiver to gain any variety of benefits including attention, nurturance, sympathy, and leniency that are seen as not obtainable any other way."

it gets worse!
there are a few white rabbits and mice on here with human avatars.
Hi every one,
It is so sad to see chess.com too is filled with so much of fake profiles..some create fake profiles, some choose fake or others' photos, yet someother pretent that they are someone else.. choosing symbolic picutres is okay. but there are a number of persons choosing photos of girls.. some even little bit severe. most of those photos were actually seen in matrimonial sites.
what is the psychology behind faking in social sites?

These accounts are not fake. there is a human touch behind everything. The only thing is they lack confidence or somekind of fear makes them to go in disguise. The behind those we can see the real one. as Masterid says they will always tell the truth afterwards.. - means when they get confidence. The cynic eys is the curse of this period.
We can reduce this by giving confidence to people or atleast trust them all
