It's been shown in Social Psychology when people are online they feel separated from the other people and are more likely to administer shocks or other types of abuse when asked by "authorities". I think that is part of what makes these forums important, that we come together as a community. It's a tough situation and Chess dotcom may have been bitten off more than it can chew. We are trying hard not to be like Facebook and other social media.

There are also over two million hardcore users here, so the abuse is gonna come up.

The regular group absolutely do our best to have the best peaceful atmosphere here, and yes it definitely needs improving though I do see that the near future these forums are going to be a wonderful harmonious atmosphere. =)

I guess I should say most of them. I think that the anonymity of the internet has given some people the impression they can act like that in real life. Especially kids because they think no one will pop them in the mouth for acting up. A couple weeks ago on the light rail I saw some 8-10yo punk kid throw a rock at an adult, flipping him off, saying f u f yourself etc. thinking he was a tuff guy with his 5 friends with him. Of course as soon as they got off the train they all ran to the buss stop as fast as they could hopping on the first bus there and hiding in the back.
