Why the flame wars?

I mean, about half of the topics I have stumbled upon, there was either:
1. Trolling
2. Flame wars
3. People who simply can't tolerate one minor offensive comment (This is really rare) and it then it escalates into either A or B
So, besides C, What are your reasons for starting flame wars/trolling? Is it because it is fun? Is it because another person was too offensive?
Please post your reasons if you were ever in the midst of an flame war.
