Unless he actually closes his account, his announcment is pure manipulation.
Think about that....he wants you to feel sad or bereft in order to make himself feel better.
A considerate person who wanted to close their account would send private message to those they feel closest to, perhaps explaining their reasons for closing and sharing emails to keep in contact, and then do so.
Or, if they just wanted to be done with it, they'd close it with no fanfare.
An announcement is pure drama and for their own enjoyment while watching someone be sad.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
