What was your inspiration for playing chess?

I think my dad got me started, but only casually. I, like others got hooked when the Fischer-Spassky match took place. I remember watching the 5 hour telecast with Shelby Lyman on PBS in NY., and was hooked from then on.

Beating my dad and brother

My stepdad. He would destroy me over the board. It was especially annoying that he moved both rook pawns one square early in the opening every game, and I would still lose. It was very satisfying to finally beat him... and then he never played me again after that.
