Ads

Hi!!  As a premium member do you ever see ads?  I have been getting some annoying ads for cell phones etc that pop up on the chess.com task bar under the game page.

Is anyone else experiencing this?  If so, is that normal?

Chuck it is possible these are coming from your meebo chat bar.

Unfortunately as meebo is a 3rd party service any member wanting to use the chat bar will see the ads. We are sorry about this but we cannot remove them, they are a part of the meebo service.
The only way to remove the ads you see on the chat bar, is to completely turn off the chat bar itself and not use it.

You can completely turn off chat completely in your  Privacy section (Account)

I''m glad I found this little forum!  I immediately made the silly chat bar go away forever.  I think it would be appropriate for chess.com to send a message to members saying how easy it is to do this.  When the chat bar first appeared, there were no ads on it, so I didn't pay any attention to it--Meebo obviously waited a little while before switching on the Annoy-a-tron. 

Very annoying indeed.

I posted a polite diatribe at http://www.chess.com/forum/view/premium_members/irritating-adverts-on-my-ad-free-account before noticing this thread and finding out how to disable the irritating chat-bar with even more irritating ads.
