Gifting a Membership

I have a Plat. membership and want to gift a gold to someone.

I tried to do this, but I was asked for my credit card details again, and it looked like I was going to be charged for this.

What is the correct procedure for gifting?

Here is an explanation of how to give away your free gold membership:

Is there a way to donate the Gold Membership Gift to a current "free" member who has contributed much to Chess.com but is unable to afford the upgrade.  If so, how can I expedite this process.  Thank you.

I am having the same problem but the link in response #2 seems broken. I would be interested in the answer. In my case, the Gold membership was given to me, but I suspect that was because I was nearing the renewal date. So I went through the process again, but it was not given to the member I wanted to gift, instead it was given to me for $0

Yes. You pay for it with the payment method in file for your account. If you don't have one, you have to provide one to be able to gift.
