"by the time the screen reloads"

Well gosh, if your screen reloading takes more than a half second, that's a normal enough response rate for anyone used to playing 1/0 (since, that's 0-1 seconds/move).

So, there's your explanation.  Especially if your opponent's Live Chess rating for "bullet", is within an order of magnitude of the online (correspondence) rating.

ps.  This site is INCREDIBLY data intensive (I'm a bit worried of going over my ISP's data quota, just for hanging out here).  Not so hard to imagine your iPhone's not keeping up very well.

Perhaps your opponent has programed conditional moves.

Okay, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt I guess. My iPhone reloads very quickly actually which is what made me suspicious. Then it was the second time it happened when I log on a couple of hours later, make a move and boom his move is made again. It's a tournament game and just seems very unusual.

Thank you for your responses!

Can you do that?  Sorta like Chess Live's "pre-moves".  I'm in my first online game here and I've not noticed any provisions for that capability.

ps.  Son of a Gun!!  On checking and looking for it, I see there's a 'conditional moves' link just sitting there.  You can punch in what you think your opponent might do, and supply your response.  The site will auto-play that for you instantly.

Yup, you can program multiple, long lines of conditional moves, dependant on membership level.

Especially useful for openings and forcing positions.

Note that this option is only available when it is your opponent's move.

Conditional moves are a little like premoves. An opponent sets conditional moves so

if he moves there, i want to move here.

Second line

Or if he moves here, i want to move there.

On the web, you'd see a message at the top of the page saying 'your move has triggered your opponents conditional move' ... and its your turn again.

For someone on an iPhone, it looks like their opponent as moved immediately after they make theirs.

Thanks!  I found it before noticing your post but appreciate your quick response.

That must be what he's done and I have never noticed that. I feel silly now, thanks!
