how come?

How come every time I play against someone whose rating is several hundred points higher than mine I play excellent, but every time I play someone 100 points lower than me I blunder as much or even more than him sometimes? Usually I still win vs lower rated players, but sometimes they win.
Does this happen to anyone else? If so please tell me why you think you do these things?

Just normal human psychology.  Playing against someone you have decided has skill level inferior to yours means you play a hohum lackadaisacal  game.  The mindset, whether consciously articulated or not, is that you already have this clown beat and don't have to work hard.  Bad things happen.  When you play someone you acknowledge to be a superior player, all your senses are sharpened and you are acutely aware of the need to do your very best.  And sometimes, you do.  So of course the advice is to play the board not the opponent and dispense with all this ego crap.  So if you want to stop doing this, check into a serious monastery for a few years, attain enlightenment, and then get serious about chess.

Thanks.
