I suggest you take a look at federal age requirements for work.

I was just curious about how members, escpecially those with children, felt about the appropriate age to go onto chess.com.  For the most part I noticed that chess.com prefers people under 13 to use their parents email address (of course most anyone would know how to work around that) and this got me wondering about age issues.  I had at one time thought about having my middle school chess club (ages 12 to 14) play on this site but wasn't sure how well recieved this would be by parents.  I now wonder if I should reserve it for the older players only perhaps?  I would love to have some input!

Thanks,

Theres a great website called chesskid.com. Its kid-safe, theres a limited chat, and lots of lessons and puzzles. Heres a picture:

You can also make a club page that invite only can join.

I think they have to be at least 7 to use chess.com

I don't see anything wrong with it.  I have yet to see a vulgar post of any sort on chess.com -- only slight disagreements.  I think most parents would agree that chess.com is much more educational than myspace, facebook, youtube, etc.  If you are worried about the parents I would send home a permission slip.

if u havent seen

im guessing that ur new to the community

AFAIK, any email site requires you to be at least 13 to have an email.

IzzyChessGirl

I thought I was one of the younger players on here, I have nothing on you guys!

Well, I'm currently playing an 11 year-old CM, and he seems to be coping happy.png

snoozyman

I've never realized how young these players are, I probably lost to most of them...

Chess.com says everyone under 13 cant join the site unless they have parental permission or something like that, don't remember.

But lets be honest the vast majority of spam posts on the forums are from 12 year olds desperate for attention, and nothing happens to them, so its obvious chess.com doesn't care about that regulation.

I guess it’s the parents decision. They let me on.

!@#%$&

i'm 12, for god's sake, and i feel it's perfectly alright for kids to sign up, so long as both their parents completely agree and know what their child is doing

 Couldn't agree more (except I'm 11)

I agree, I’m 10

This chess.com account's email is my dad's email...  soooo it don't really matter if you under 13 as long as you get parents permission or something.
