I felt like I had the same experience and ended up playing better in person. I've been told that getting a personal coach/teacher really helps the most.
One guy told me that I had to practice solving 100 puzzles on "beginner" mode or 500 ELO or less with 95% accuracy. Do that for every level of difficulty and try to do it in less than 20min. Good luck my friend.
