Abandoning Games

This really scares me; about a third of the games, where I am winning are abandoned.  Must mean that I have been placed in the evil pool.

It's just happened to me twice in a row, first guy accused me of cheating then wound down the clock. Second I ended up resigning as I couldn't be bothered waiting it out. I reported them both. Am in the bad pool? How would I know? If I am what can I do to get out? The auto resign feature does not appear to be consistent and still requires waiting 3 minutes after it commences on a 30 minute game. Why isn't there a feature that just asks a player if they haven't moved for a minute of they're still playing? If they don't click yes in 30s they automatically resign.

And it just happened again, had a player one move away from checkmate then they stall (ps I only play 30 min games) a minute or so then offers a draw. Naturally I decline, he stalls an extra 4 minutes before playing the final move.

I mean this still falls into randomness but the odds are getting pretty thin, and it's by no means the first time I've come across the tactic

Looking up people's wins and losses doesn't help anything. I think that you get into a worse pool for being reported a lot. Either way, people will resign and stall out no matter what pool they are in. Depending on your rating most people are going to be sore losers. It's just the way of life. I wouldn't worry about it too much, just report the poor sportsmanship players and move on.

ur last loss was Days ago, and it was a legitimate loss, not sure what ur talking about.

Dunno RedGirlZ, maybe you where looking at daily? It was on the 30min games. For what it's worth I wasn't making it up. Be a bit weird to spend time trying to shine light on an issue that doesn't exist

Why is leaving a game without resigning such a common thing on this website? people who mess up or start to lose will just log off forcing the winning player to sit around and wait for 30 seconds or so for the game to end before moving on. I don't understand why this happens about every other live game I win. Isn't there anything chess.com can do to encourage good sportsmanship in defeat?

They are not resigning because they don't want to lose their position. They just want you to go away. But the question is why? Maybe they want to live in a barren website. One thing for sure: living things die out of thirst  but engine like things thrive on desert because when there is no humidity there is no rust. But they don't know that in their trying  themselves not to get corrosion they are rusting their chess partner in a game. Maybe they don't treat you as partner.

Chess.com does actively discourage it. Anyone who disconnects frequently will get assigned to a special pool where they will play similar players. You also have the chance to report such players.

What is even more frustrating than that is when a draw is offered to opponent, opponent declines draw, you notice opportunity to win after making a few moves and then they either abandon or purposely disconnect instead of resigning. Why decline a draw if you have no plan to finish the game anyway?
