Blocking

Blocking should work. I was paired with an opponent who I had previously blocked. Of course, this feature has never worked correctly if you do not log out and log back in, but in this case there was several hours and a disconnect between the blocking and the repairing.

Please fix this site. If I never want to play a particular opponent again, I should be able to block permanantly.

At least I got my points back. Last night I was paired with someone who seemed suspicious, so I blocked him instead of playing. Some time later, I was paired with this player again, but made a move before I recognized who it was. I finished the game and submitted my report. Less than twelve hours later, my rating points were restored and the player eliminated from the site.

I was paired twice against a player after blocking him. I left the site to do other work between the second and third game.

Chessdotcom is still run by broken bots.

Ziryab

This is getting ridiculous. Three players blocked. Several games with each after blocking.

No. This is real.

i think the block function is broken. the other night i blocked a couple of folks who were posting lines of rubbish in chesstv chat, their comments still kept coming through...

Blocking mainly refers to site communication. Blocked players will not be able to send each other messages or commnt on eachs others profiles or forums threads.

If players that have blocked each other are part of the same tournemnt or arena they may still get matched up to each other as that is decided purely on rating.

Blocking players you never want to face again is a standard part of every reputable chess site. Of course, in Arena and tournaments such blocking will be ignored.

Apart from those content related things, blocking someone means they cannot

be auto-matched with you in open seeks

I'm not sure if that's your open seek or their open seek, but really it should apply to both. I'm also not sure at which point Live Chess refreshes the blocked status after you've added someone - it would be worth reporting to the Devs in Help --> Report a Bug when it happens, and even to put one in now.

Use a knight, they're a good blocking piece...

Hi David, I assume Open Seeks are different to the pool of players in a tournament or arena?

Ziryab

Please fix this. There is a reason for blocking.

I am installing this app because I am getting verbal abuse from an opponent . I even reported for that but chess.com had done nothing for that .

Reports have to be researched and except with extreme breaches of the TOS, they start with warnings, then mutes. They don't usually contact members if you reported with the profile report option, unless they actually close the account, and in that case they just send a basic message about it.

I just played a game in which my opponent declined a draw in a textbook Philidor position when time was not a factor. That earns a block, but when I went to block him, I saw that I had done so at some point in the past.

WE SHOULD NOT HAVE PLAYED.

Chess.com, please fix this.

just bc he declines a draw doesnt give him the right to be blocked, I swear ppl rage so easily

Really? I’m here to play chess, not fool around with people who lack elementary understanding of the game. As today’s was our first game, my guess is that his engine failed to load last time we were paired, and so he aborted.
